Ian stares at the screen of his phone at the unknown number and for a minute decides to reject the call but decided against it.
"Hello?"
"Ian it's me Muggy," a voice ravaged by years of smoking said and the name was no stranger to him.
"Wah?! brethren a who gi yuh mi numbah?"
"Jus relax nuh man," the voice on the other end said, "It's just that Kameel is kippin a likkle get to gedda on his mother memorial an wanted to invite yuh sista."
"So wat dat affi duh wid me?"
"Cool nuh man," the voice said in an attempt to soothe the rising agitation that was building up in him. "Jus let yuh sista know ok."
"Mi look like Kameel messenger?" Ian snap. "An a who gi yuh mi numba?"
"Abigail from roun a Cornwall street, seh she a look farwud fi see yuh," was the reply. "Memba tell yuh sista an see yuh tonight."
"Why mi wudda waah see yuh Muggy?!"
The man on the other end took no offense he just laughs then hangs up. Ian replaces his phone on the center table and returns his attention to his laptop but the thought of seeing Abbey again fills him with much pleasure and intrigue.
She was a one-time fling with who he had quite a wonderful and exciting time until her baby father returns from prison and she ended the relationship.
It was not what he had wanted but he knew it was best to keep away from Thugs' woman. He was gun-crazy and too bloodthirsty to take any chances with so he had swiftly put an end to the affair, but hearing about her again and the thought of the things she had done to him was propelling him to take a chance. He was busy contemplating his move when Leslie walk through the door.
I place the shopping bags I had by the door and stare in surprise at my brother. It was strange seeing him at home this early. I walk over to the sofa and sat by him leaning down against him.
" Hey bro, what's up?" I ask a bit curious.
"Nothing," he replies snuggling me closer "You?"
"Miserable," I told him with a sigh.
Ian laughs knowingly and places a kiss on the top of my head. "Just two more days to go."
I laugh too and sigh dramatically, "Two long, lonely days."
"Yuh talk to Dan every day since he left and your behaving as if you haven't even spoken," he said shaking his head smiling.
"Speaking is not the same as touching and seeing him yuh know," I comment looking at him then directed the conversation to him. "So what's up with you and Vanessa?"
"Seems she has other important things than our relationship to focus on," he said reaching over to save the document he was working on.
I wrap my arm around his waist and said, "I bought icecream care to binge-watch horror movies and indulge."
He smiles at me his chunky locks falling about his face. "I have a better idea, lets go by Junction Street---"
"No way!" I said surprisingly cutting him off, "You expect me to go to the one place where everyone is happy we left from?!"
He sighs and looks out the window then back at me and our eyes met. I saw a hint of sadness there that rip at my defiance.
"Mama dead and gone Les and it's time you quit acting like you must be punished for the life she lead. We've nothing to be ashamed of. It's time you stop being guilty of something you never duh!"
