"I can't believe that I am dancing with my sister at her wedding reception," Ian exclaim as we move to the tune of the song that filled the tent, "and also she hasn't maimed me knowing she has two left feet," he adds teasingly as we dance alongside Daniel and his mother.
I laugh and said, "It's not too late."
He laughs with me and I knew he had questions which I would have to answer eventually. However not the type to be inconsiderate on all occasions he allows me my moment as he quells his curiosity and enjoys the event to which he adds his own vibes.
It was much fun and laughter as the night winded down to a close. I wish it could continue but when our time was near an end on the dance floor I could tell that something was amiss.
I was at first just content with dancing with Ian, watching Daniel and his mother, and enjoying the sweet soulful music that drifted up from the beach through the speakers but then an unforeseen feeling that was close to dread gripped me.
Without stepping away from Ian I sought out the reason for the feeling that rushed within me. I watched the group of guests that sat watching us. Some were smiling, others whispering some comments to the occupants at their table while others were just basking in the lovely atmosphere.
It was when my eyes found the chestnut hair lady's table that I felt my body stiffen in apprehension. I watch the younger man who sat beside her and suddenly realize he had an uncanny resemblance to both my husband and brother-in-law.
He seemed to be upset with her as she was with him, but she on the other hand was obviously drunk and made her the more dangerous of the pair. I cast a quick look at Daniel but with his back to the table, he was unaware of what was happening.
Was this the moment that the string would break and unravel my comfort? I prayed not. I did not want this special moment to end in dismay. I wanted just one occasion shared with Daniel to end perfectly. I prayed silently for her to refrain from destroying my moment of tranquillity.
I felt my heartbeat race within the tight bodice of my dress as I saw her stand shakily to her feet with a wild sway. No no no!!... I scream silently. I close my eyes waiting in dread for the ghastly scene that was sure to come.
I grip Ian and feel my body tense but nothing happens. The music was still playing, the sweet hush tones of contented voices still mingled with the sweet rush of the blue water of the beach beyond.
My eyes flew open as the song ended and we were greeted with cheers and clapping. I look on to see Devon and the young man who was upset with Sonia escort her from the tent. She looked defeated and broken.
What was her story? Who was she?
I would however not get the answers here and now but all I knew was that I was overly grateful that she had not spoiled my night as Ian brought me back to my table.
Too many great occasions in my life had ended on dismal notes. I needed a happy ending until my reality set in until I had to kiss tonight goodbye.
"Now ladies and gentlemen no wedding reception is complete without the cutting of the cake." I heard the MC voice and I turned to see the most beautiful three-layered cake being brought in.
It was absolutely amazing. It was of white and ivory. The three-round layers were bordered with tiny pearls and decorated with an artistic array of honey-sweetened icing made in tiny rosettes.
I laugh at the miniatures of a bride and groom embracing by a car that was the spitting image of the one that Daniel and I first drove in and also made love in. I felt so many emotions course through me.
I looked over at Daniel who stared at me and my breath caught as I saw something in his expression that I so wanted to call love. I watched as he walked over to me, took my hand, waited as I got up, and then led me to the cake.
I tremble as he places the cutting knife in my hand. He stood behind me, his warm body moulding to mine perfectly as he placed my hand in his. His beard tickles my ear and my body responds full force. A quick involuntary gasp rush from my lips as I came alive.
I had to regain control. I took a deep steadying breath and let his hand guide mine. I was not ready for what was to come next.
Daniel took the minimal piece of cake we cut, placed it in his mouth then proceeded to feed me with it then followed that with a kiss that set me on fire. I was an inferno of need as I involuntarily stepped into his body and felt his body respond to our kiss.
I want to savour it so I let my lower half nestle against it as I wipe away the icing that smears his lips. I was taken back to the Villa where he had stood aroused as he watched me walking from the elevator, just like then I used my body to shield him as I relish the moment.
Whistles and wild cheers fill the night. Applause rang out loud. He hugged me and I buried my face in his chest feeling all my love for him course through me as I enjoyed the sounds of the much-appreciated audience.
"Hey darling," he said gently, pulling away from me. I look up at him knowing that all my feelings were there for him to see. It was done. I was no longer in the dark. I was open up with my all on display. I loved him. I did with every fibre of my being. I did not care who knew or what the group of people looked on could decipher or even what they knew, all mattered was that I love this man and I could not repress it any longer.
I remained there knowing I had lost the fight and I cared not. I just smile and ask. "Are you ok to go back to the table now?"
I felt him pull me back into his arms and hug my body to his as he whispered. "My sweet darling Leslie."
I was happy he knew I would protect him and support him, however, I had one chink in my crown tonight as the fairytale ended. He didn't love me in return. It was all about the baby. I just happened to come with the package.
Shania Twain's From This Moment started to play and I wanted to cry as the words radiate a knowledge of the fact that Julian Daniel Myers was the one who made my dreams come true.
"My beautiful family and friends on behalf of my darling wife and I," he said to the guests as he regained his composure. "We express our gratitude in you celebrating this beautiful occasion with us but we must take our leave now, but feel free to continue enjoying the delicacies that remain."
"Please take care with her, she has work on Monday," one of my colleagues teases as he takes my hand and starts to walk with me to his mother's table. Laughter and delightful banter followed at this remark and I blush deeper.
She smiled lovingly at me as she took my hand in hers. "I look forward to spending some time with you soon," she told me with a sweet smile. "I am so happy for you both."
The sincerity in her voice pleased me and I leaned forward and kissed her cheek wondering if my mother was alive would she have been happy for me.
"Yuh tek care a dem", she told Daniel and I knew what she meant, however, I still felt my face burn some more with the knowledge of her knowing I was pregnant.
"I sure will," he smiled.
I waited as he spoke briefly to Devon before we departed to cheers and teasing remarks. This night was a night that I will forever remember.
I held Daniel's hand feeling surprisingly happy considering the true extent of our union as we walked side by side from the tent, I was Leslie Winslow-Myers....his wife.
