Luckily the police didn't send Dean to jail like he had thought, but they did ask him a lot of questions. Sam hid in the corner very afraid of these new men and worried that they would take Dean away from him.
"Where are your parents? " The first officer asked and Dean explained that their mother had dead in a fire almost three years ago.
"And your father? " The second one asked at the mere mention of the man both of the boys flinched.
"Daddy left us a lot but he then one day he left and never came back, " Dean explained and then he burst into tears because the weight of his father neglect had finally hit him. Sam wanted to run and hug his brother but he didn't trust the men he was talking with, what if they hurt him?
"Please don't take me away from Sammy I'm all he has! " Dean begged the two officers while he hated looking helpless in this moment he couldn't help it.
"We're not going to take you away but we will take you two to people who can help you. "
Dean didn't understand what that meant and Sam didn't either but they agreed to go with the officers as long as they could stay together. The next thing the boys knew they were placed in foster care. It was quite nice exactly, there was a bunch of other kids there, lots of healthy food, fun activities and a nice bed to sleep in at night.
But then things got bad, really bad it started one night when Sam had a terrible dream about being taken away from his brother so he snuck out of his bed to be with him.
"Dean, " Sam called out softly as he patted Dean's shoulder while he was asleep. Dean always woke up grumpy but when he saw his little brother's distraught face, he immediately softened.
"Sammy what happened? " He asked
"They took me away! " Sam cried as he clung onto his brother and then proceed to cry into Dean's shirt.
"Who did? " Dean asked as he hugged his little brother trying to calm him down.
"A man and a woman they said that they were my new mommy and daddy, but then they took me away from you and when I saw you again I didn't remember who you were! " Sam cried and only stopped for a minute to catch his breath.
"But that wasn't the worst part, the worst part was when I saw you and Daddy he was laughing about something and you were asleep and I couldn't wake you up! " Sam finished and then burst into another fit of tears
and Dean sat there in shock as he tried to take in what Sam had just said.
He wasn't sure that if he told Sam that it was just a dream that he would calm down but he couldn't see him be this upset. So he held his brother close untit his sobs turned into sniffles.
"Its okay Sammy that won't ever happen, " Dean whispered and he kissed his brother on the forehead to show Sam that he was there.
"Promise? " Sam asked still sniffling, Dean then hugged him again.
"Promise, " Dean said to him and Sam then climbed into Dean's bed because he wasn't willing to be alone the rest of the night.
Dean didn't complain when he did as Sam had always done that when he had nightmares.
"Don't snore okay, " Dean told him and his heart leapt when he saw Sam laugh.
"I don't snore you do, " the three year old responded and then he fell asleep. Dean lay awake for a little while before he went back to sleep, he couldn't keep his mind off of Sam's dream. He was almost eight so he wasn't going to admit that it scared him. But Sam's reaction to it all just seemed so real, and that scared him.
Eventually Dean couldn't stay awake anymore so he let himself drift off, early the next morning the foster mom Jasmine noticed that Sam wasn't in his bed. She knew after four weeks of having him here if he wasn't in his bed, he was with his brother. She gently woke up Sam and let Dean continue sleeping as she carried the three year old away. It was a special day because Sam was being adopted, a young couple had decided that after meeting him a couple days ago that they would take him in.
However they only wanted Sam which meant she had to separate him from Dean. It was the worst part of her job when she had to separate siblings and she knew that it would hurt them both. They were obviously very close and she had tried her best to find a family that would take them both but she couldn't.
"Why up early? " Sam asked as Jasmine combed his hair and helped him change into some nicer clothes.
"They're people here to meet you Sam, " Jasmine explained and the three year old blinked in response.
He didn't understood what she meant, he liked Ms. Jasmine she was very nice but he had a feeling that something was wrong.
"Who? " Sam asked as she walked him to the waiting room where he saw a man and a woman. He didn't like this it was beginning to feel like his dream.
"Dean too, " Sam said looking up at here worriedly but she didn't respond.
"Hey Sammy my name is Ellen and that over there is Jim we're going to be your mommy and daddy. " The blonde hair woman said to him and Sam began to panic, he wanted Dean to be here with him.
Before Sam could even respond Ellen picked him up while Jim signed a bunch of papers that Ms. Jasmine was holding.
"De, " Sam said fearfully as they carried him away to their car. Jasmine felt a tug on her heart when she heard someone come running down the stairs behind her, she knew it was Dean.
"Where's Sammy?! " He asked with trials of angry tears running down his face as he looked at Jasmine.
"Dean please calm down, " she said trying to get him to settle down.
But it didn't work, Dean ran right past her and out the door where he saw Sam in a car and it was driving away. Dean chased after the car desperate to catch up with him so he could get Sammy back.
"Sammy! " Dean yelled out as he ran and Sam looked at him through the back window trying to tell him something.
"Please stop I see Dean, " Sam said tearfully to Ellen but the car didn't stop it kept going. The brothers both watched as the other faded away leaving them both more distraught then they ever had in their whole life.
"Sammy come back! " Dean yelled as he stopped to catch his breath and Jasmine grabbed him trying to pull him off the street.
"Honey I'm sorry but he's with his new family now, " she said to him and then picked him as he kicked and screamed at her.
"No bring him back please he has to be with me! " Dean cried.
