John Winchester wasn't the best father in the world, heck he wasn't even a good one. He always left his boys alone for days unsupervised when he left to go on a hunt, even though they were only seven and three years old. Even when he was home or wherever they were staying until they had to move, John wouldn't treat his children like his children he would treat them as warriors.
Dean still had his hopes though, as terrible as his father was he still hoped that eventually his ways would change. But they didn't as one day John just left and he never came back. Dean didn't want to believe it, as he thought under all that neglect that deep down his father cared. But as the days turned into weeks and those weeks became a month, Dean was forced to tell his little brother who had been asking him endless questions about when his Dad was coming back.
That he wasn't coming back, Sam at the time was too young to understand what that meant but he was still torn up about it. Dean really had to step up as he was all Sam had now, so he had to be less of a brother and more of a parent. But he couldn't really do much as he was just a kid himself, he didn't have any money for things they needed so he was forced to steal. He also couldn't really educate Sam as he had recently only began himself.
Still he had to try so he did all he could.
"Sammy I have to go into town to get a few things, " Dean said to his young brother who was drawing a picture. The three year tensed up at those words as he didn't want Dean to leave him too.
"De are you coming back? " Sam asked on the verge of tears.
"Of course but I have to get food for you, stay inside and don't open the door unless its me. " Dean said to him and then kissed him on the forehead like a father would to their son.Dean then ran to the small store that was nearby and snuck in hoping that no one would see him. As quickly as he could he grabbed what food he could, a jug of milk and a few bars of soap. Then he dashed off, Dean however didn't notice that while he was running off that two police officer saw him. They were in town because they had gotten reports of a neighborhood thief.
"Looks like we found our neighborhood theif, " One of them said and then joined his partner in the car so they could follow the little boy."Sammy I'm back, " Dean called out as he walked back into the old house they called home. Sam came running and trapped his older brother in a hug, Dean hadn't been gone that long and he was worried that he would never see his brother again.
"De you came back I missed you so much, " Sam cried as Dean hugged him back. Dean didn't mind Sam's clinglyness mostly because he was equally as clingy and never wanted Sam out of his sight.
"De I draw something for you, " Sam declared after he had calmed down a bit, he handed his older brother a picture of two stick figures in what looked like a black car. Also on the picture in the sky was another stick with wings, halo and blond hair making it an angel.
"That's mommy, " Sam said pointing to the angel, he had no memory of her because she died when he was only six months old. But Dean had always told him that their mommy was like an angel watching over them.
"That's you and me in a car, " Sam then said pointing to the other stick figures.
"Sammy I love it but I don't have a car, " Dean said laughing and placed the picture in jacket pocket so he wouldn't lose it."But I saw you drive one in my dreams, we were older and you were driving a black car. " Sam explained and Dean thought it was so cute that Sam had a fantasy like that in his mind. However then someone knocked on the door and Sam ducked behind his brother in fear. Dean made no move to answer it until the heard the words.
"Police open up! " Dean felt a shiver run down his spine, he had to answer the door but he feared what would happen after he did.
