Everything that happened in the next couple minutes felt like a complete blur to Sam. He didn't remember his mother trying to calm him down, Dean's father coming out the car demanding an explanation when he saw his son. He didn't even remember what was said after that or who called 911. The only thing he remembered was seeing the paramedics arrive and rushing his brother into the ambulance.
"Victim is a young male in his early twenties and the bullet hit his side, " the first paramedic said.
"Is my brother going to be okay? I can't lose him!" Sam exclaimed as he ran after them trying to see his brother.
"He's stable kid but we're going to take him to the hospital, " the second one replied and neither nor his partner complained when Sam climbed inside the ambulance. Ellen and Bobby followed close behind him and explained what happened to the driver.Sam held his brother hand the entire ride and call him crazy but he swore he could feel Dean squeeze his hand back.
"What if we don't make it in time?" Sam suddenly asked. What if Dean didn't make it? Then he would be all alone.
"Sam, " Ellen said to her son and when Sam looked up to see what she meant. Sam almost cried again when he saw that they had finally arrived at the hospital.
"We made it Dean, " Sam said to his brother and this time he definitely felt Dean squeeze his hand. The paramedics rushed Dean to the nearest room so they could prepare him for surgery. Watching all this happen was torture for Sam, he wanted to be with his brother so he could make sure he was alright. But the doctors refused to let him follow.
"Please let me come with, I need to be with my brother!" Sam yelled trying to push his way through.
"Sweetie I am sorry but I can't let you in, but I promise we will do all we can for your brother, " the doctor said to him.Sam didn't like that response but he knew he couldn't force his way in.
"Please save him, I can't lose him, he is like my dad!" Sam exclaimed and Ellen tried to pull him away but he wouldn't budge.
"I understand and I see that you're close with your brother, don't worry we will do all we can, " the doctor said to him. This finally convinced a reluctant Sam to give in, however waiting for answers on Dean's condition was pure torture and Sam must have sat in his chair for hours until he finally relaxed.Eventually all of his concern was starting to exhaust and while one of the doctors was talking to Bobby.
"How is he? " The older man asked.
"He'll live but he needs rest, you're very lucky that your younger son found him," the doctor explained as he looked at some papers on a clipboard.
"Oh Sam isn't mine, he's Dean's," Bobby explained and before the doctor could ask questions.Sam snuck into his brother's room. He didn't care if someone caught him, he just wanted to see his brother. Dean was asleep and Sam noticed that he had been stitched up. Most importantly though he was alive and that was good enough for him.
"I couldn't come in earlier but I had to see you, " Sam whispered as he placed a hand on Dean's forehead. He felt his brother move a bit which was a good sign. "I don't know how much you saw or remember but I can move things with my mind Dean, " he continued. Dean stired a bit and coughed as he woke up, he was under a lot of pain meds so he couldn't move much.
"Hey aren't I normally the one saving you?" Dean asked once he laid eyes on his younger brother.Sam teared up at the sight and had to resist the urge to hug Dean. "Tears for me?" Dean joked and Sam smiled at the response.
"Tears of joy, I hate waiting for answers, " Sam responded.
"Well wait over, now what are you doing standing there? Come give your big bro a hug, " Dean said and Sam immediately embraced him but was careful not to damage any of the stitching on Dean's side. "That's my boy, "
