"Mom I'm home, " Sam said as he entered the house. After a long day at school he was ready to take a quick shower and a nap.
"Up here dear, " Ellen responded from the second floor, and Sam walked up the the stairs to see her talking on the phone with someone. Once she saw him, she hung him and started asking her adoptive son about his day.

"Did you have a good day? " Ellen asked and Sam went on to explain how he was saved from Dirk and his gang by Dean. She was surprised but also thrilled those jerks had been picking on her boy ever since his freshman year. However she also felt that this Dean character he mentioned would be showing up a lot more. That wasn't a bad thing as she didn't get any bad vibes from hearing about him, as she owned the guy for saving Sam, but still what if this Dean that saved him today was the Dean he mentioned while she was adopting him.

She still remembered how when Sam was little, he would cry at night for his big brother. Whose name happened to be Dean, she still blamed herself for that. If she had adopted both of them, then all those long sleepless nights with a distraught toddler could have been avoided.
"How old is he Sammy? " She felt like she had to ask so she could know more.
"Well I don't actually know, he never said and I didn't feel like I had to ask, but my best guess is early twenties, " Sam explained.

There was a brief moment of awkward silence after he said that. Mostly because Ellen was making a decision in her head, she loved Sam and if that meant she had to let him go because he wanted to be with his brother. She wouldn't stop him, because she knew it would make him happy. Now however all she could do was support him.
"Well do you want to see this Dean again?" Ellen asked.
"I hope so, he seems like a good guy plus we both could use a friend. He told me that he lost his brother so I want to be there for him, " Sam responded and he was being honest, something inside him was saying that meeting Dean wasn't an accident but fate. It wasn't sure why but he wasn't complaining about it.

The following week Sam wasn't expecting any surprises but he did get one, like most nights he helped serve the customers and when he left the counter to go wait tables  he almost fell over at the sight of Dean with a pretty girl. Most likely his girlfriend by the way they were talking.
"Dean? " Sam asked still shocked upon seeimg him.
"Hey kid fancy meeting you here, " Dean joked the second he noticed Sam.
"Do you two know each other? " Lisa asked unsure of what was happening.
"Sorta he came here last week, " Sam answered.
"Don't forget I helped you with those jerks, " Dean pointed out and when Lisa asked what he was talking about, he explained the situation with the bullies much to Sam's embarrassment.
"Oh sweetie that was so sweet of you, " Lisa said as it wasn't often that Dean showed his soft side.

"Nah I just had to teach those jerks a lesson," Dean responded and he shot Sam a brief smirk, causing the teen to chuckle.
"I think you definitely did because they haven't bothered me much since then.
Also if I see you two making out I not fell bad kicking you out, " Sam joked and he felt the same feeling of complete trust run through him as the night continued to drag on. Dean cracked a few jokes whenever Sam arrived at his table, which the teenager gladly returned.

"Wow you guys get along really well, are you sure you're not best friends with him? " Lisa asked after witnessing the unspoken connection Dean seemed to have with Sam, it also seemed like their bond got stronger every time they saw each other.
"I can't really explain it, " Dean admitted and it was the truth, he had no idea where the sudden urge to protect Sam came from. He didn't even know the kid that well, and here they were talking like they were old friends. Sam was either too trusting or having the same problem as he was, because the kid had no second thoughts about talking to a stranger.

"Get to know him, who knows since you get along so well I wouldn't be surprised if he is meant to be your best friend or something," Lisa encouraged she liked this new side of her boyfriend. Normally he was closed off and snarky with everyone but he was open and almost parental with this kid.
"You may be right as usual, " Dean responded.
