HARPER'S POV

Daniel pulls up in front of Kaylee's house, at exactly eleven o'clock. I giggle. "You know she wasn't serious about the curfew, right?"

Daniel shrugs, turning the car off. "I wanted to be safe," he jokes. "She kinda scares me."

I laugh as he easily takes my hand, swinging our arms back and forth as he walks me to the front door. "Yeah. Me too, sometimes."

He takes both of my hands on the porch before we part for the night. "I meant what I said. I'm always here for you to talk to."

"I know," I reply, squeezing his hands and smiling hard. "Thank you. For tonight. For everything."

"Of course," Daniel says, his blue eyes sparkling. He kisses me sweetly on the cheek. "Good night, Harper."

"Good night, Daniel." He holds my hand as long as possible, before walking away to get back to the car, and I go inside.

As expected, Kaylee is waiting for me on the couch. Her parents went out of town this morning for a last minute business venture in Chicago, and they won't be back until tomorrow afternoon, so it's just the two of us for the weekend. "Well?" She asks, sitting cross-legged facing me on the couch as I join her, popcorn bowl in her lap. "How was it?"

"It was..." I shake my head, still smiling hard. "Perfect."

Kaylee squeals. "Oh my God, it was?"

"It was," I admit. "We...sort of kissed."

The bowl of popcorn almost goes flying. "You what?"

"We kissed," I repeat, and start laughing as she squeals and does a little happy dance for me. "Okay, okay, calm down!"

"I'm so happy for you!" Kaylee says.

"I'm happy," I say, and she sticks out her bottom lip as if to say 'aww'. "He makes me happy. Oh my God, what has he done?"

"He's falling in looooove with you!" She teases. "This is so cute!"

"Well, maybe not love," I reply, reaching for the popcorn bowl. "But I definitely want to be more than friends. Whatever that means."

"Please," Kaylee says, turning up the volume on the TV. "You're the girl of Daniel's dreams. What could drive him away from you that hasn't already? With everything that happened, everything he knows now? If I'm being honest, Harp, I don't see him going anywhere."

"I hope I never have to find out," I reply. "Losing that boy would kill me. If nothing in my life so far has, then that certainly would."

"Now that," Kaylee responds, smiling smugly, "sounds like love to me."

A girl can dream.
