DANIEL'S POV

"So, I've been wanting to tell you guys about something," Corbyn says, taking his books out of his locker.

"Shoot," Jack says, twisting the dial and opening his own locker as Jonah shuts the one two doors down.

The five of us all group around Corbyn. He sighs and turns to us, leaning against the lockers. "I've having a surgery."

My heart jumps. "What?"

"There's an infection in my throat, and it's been getting worse. My doctor told me that if it doesn't get taken care of soon, then it could block off my airway and I could suffocate."

"Oh my God, Bean," Zach says sympathetically. "Why didn't you tell us?"

Corbyn shrugs. "I didn't want to worry you."

"Corbyn," Jack says. "You idiot. We're your best friends. Of course we're going to worry about you."

"When is this surgery happening again?" Jonah asks.

"In about a month," Corbyn answers.

"Cool. We'll be there," Zach says.

Corbyn laughs as we all start walking to first period. "You guys don't have to come."

"You're going to have to hold us back," I tell him. "Because there's no way we aren't going to be there."

"He's right, you know," Jonah adds.

Corbyn laughs again. "Fine. Wait until the doctors hear that I brought a whole entourage with me."

"They'll love it," Zach says. "Who wouldn't?"

We all laugh as the bell rings and English class starts. Whatever we go through, we'll be there, the five of us - Jack, Zach, Jonah, Corbyn, and me, Daniel.
