.Chapter Twenty-Seven.
Should I have been excited for this day?
I kind of felt childish after I thought about what I said to Blaine last night, I really shouldn't have spoken out what I was thinking. It was coming, the awkward morning we were going to have, eating breakfast, then hoping in the car, and sitting in that awkward silence while heading to Blaine's work. I was dressed and ready to step out of the bedroom door, I was hesitant. Maybe I should just call it off? He didn't seem like he wanted me to come anyway. . . As soon as I had made up my mind not to go, my bedroom door opened and almost hit me in the face.
"Oh, sorry. Why are you standing behind the door?" Blaine said, looking at me with his innocent blue eyes that showed no sign of hesitation to stare into mine. My hand that held the door open was close to his and I flinched back.
"Well, I was just going to-"
"We don't have time to do anything, I'm going to be late for work if you don't hurry up and get in the car," he sighed, turning around. His hand lightly brushed the stair railing as he headed down them, but stopped halfway down, and turned back to me; "you are coming, right?" His voice was serious. There was more confidence in him this time as he looked back at me. I had changed my mind. A wide smile appeared on my face and I looked away just in time, so Blaine wouldn't see how happy I was.
"Yeah, coming."
I kept my hands busy by playing with the strings on my jacket. My boots make a loud clapping sound as I nervously tapped them together. Blaine kept his eyes on the road, like usual. Finally, after a few minutes of silence and the tapping of my boots, our hands brushed, and we both pulled away awkwardly.
"What are you so nervous about? It's just my job," He chuckled through words. I caught something hidden in his voice, a hint of nervousness? Was he nervous too? I couldn't bring myself to look my way, because I suddenly felt his gaze on me.
"Uh- you're mistaken, I'm not nervous, why would I be?" I said, gripping my jacket.
"Alright, I just wanted to make sure."
We arrived in front of a large building. I couldn't even guess how many floors up it was, but it was pretty high, and located downtown. Blaine stepped out of the car the same time I did and locked it. We were parked in a large parking lot full of expensive looking cars and trucks. I weaved my way around them and Blaine followed closely behind until we got to the two large double doors. He immediately pulled out a card key and had scanned it through the slot it was meant to go in. The little light that flashed red, turned a green, and the doors made an unlocking sound. Entering the building was kind of like entering Blaine's house, it was very open, with windows all around. A pretty and mature-looking woman was sitting behind a neat desk and looked up from typing on her computer.
"Welcome back, Mr. Hickory," she greeted kindly. Her eyes suddenly bolted to me, they didn't look very friendly then.
"Thank you, Clair." Blaine put the card he was holding back in his pocket and motioned me to follow him. We stood in front of a wall that suddenly turned into elevator doors. They swung opened and beeped our approval to enter. The woman, Clair, sitting behind the counter was still staring at me. I could tell she wanted to ask what I was doing here, but she kept her mouth shut. I didn't notice Blaine was actually looking very irritated and stressed.
"Have a nice day," was all Clair said before the elevator doors closed. We stood silently beside each other while the numbers for the floors counted up. I took a deep breath in trying to calm myself, then I looked down at Blaine's hand. Should I hold it? I don't know why I was getting this sensation to hold his hand, but I was too nervous to take it. I was too deep in thought before I could even make up my mind and the door opened to the top floor. Blaine stepped out and I quickly followed behind like a child following it's mother all around the grocery store. While we passed a bunch of office cubicles with working people, a man suddenly bolted in front of me, and there was no time for me to stop from running into him. Papers went flying everywhere and I tumbled on top of him.
"Ayame!" Blaine gasped, rushing back towards us and helped both of us up, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, fine." I picked myself up off of the guy with the help of Blaine grabbing my arm and stabilizing me.
"Watch where you're going next time," Blaine said, in a scolding tone. Wait what? Me? He was scolding me!? I turned around to glare at him, but just as I was about to say something the victim butted in.
"I'm s-sorry, no sir, it was my fault, I was running around and it's all m-mine," the man stuttered. We both were looking at him.
"No, it wasn't, but just be careful next time," Blaine said, patting the young mans shoulder and bent down to help him pick up the papers. They looked strangely alike in a way I couldn't explain, maybe it was because the man was probably also as young as Blaine. I also started to help pick up the papers and handed them to the guy, our hands brushed against each other, and he seemed to be staring into my eyes.
"Uh- thanks," he said. The man was a very awkward person, I could just tell. I smiled and laughed.
"No problem, of course the first thing I do is cause trouble the first thing I come here," I sighed.
"Jacob."
"What?"
"My name's Jacob."
"Oh," I smiled, "Sorry, my name's Ayame."
"That's a pretty name, as pretty as you, a-are you going to work here?" His eyes were intensively looking at me. Before I could reply, Blaine handed him all the papers and stood me up from the ground with him.
"No, Ayame is the daughter of a close friend of mine, it's time we go," Blaine said, dragging me along once again. I looked back at Jacob who stood up with the handful of papers. I felt bad, why was Blaine being such a jerk all of the sudden? I was pushed into a large office with the view of the town, but I took no notice of it, and turned around to give Blaine a death stare.
"You're really going to treat me like a child? Then you go and be an asshole to one of your workers?" I snapped. Blaine walked over to his desk and started to unloosen his tie.
"I'm not treating you like a child, but if you act like one here I will." This, coming from Blaine's mouth, was not the Blaine I knew at all. He was suddenly older, more mature, and looked like a real business man. I stood still, watching Blaine grab a mug and walk over to his coffee machine and fill it. He wasn't looking at me at all. After taking a sip of his coffee, he set the mug down on the table, and suddenly started to approach me. I backed up a little. Something wasn't right. My back hit the wall behind me and Blaine pinned his hand against the wall next to me.
"What do you want?" was all I could ask before his lips were on mine.
