.Chapter Nine.

I knew how he felt, the way he was looking at the road ahead of him, the way his fists gripped the steering wheel, and the way he'd suddenly stop as if he didn't know there was a car stalled in front of him. He was annoyed since I was in the car.

Blaine truly hated me, I just knew it. I didn't talk to him, make a single sound, or even look his way. The atmosphere hanging over our heads in the small and quiet car was mocking us. Eventually, I heard Blaine mumble a word or two when we pulled up to the school. I honestly didn't know why he was the one pissed off but I sure as hell didn't hesitate when he came to a stop in front of the school.

"Thanks," I managed out of my mouth and opened the car door. It looked like Blaine was about to say something, but he mouth slammed shut when suddenly someone called out my name.

"Ayame!" It was Zack who called me. Blaine quickly turned his head away from me, ready to speed off down the road. After seeing that, why did I hesitate to close the car door? Zack was now standing behind me, then waved at Blaine. No! Don't do that! Blaine was setting a bad atmosphere!

Blaine smiled and waved back. My mouth dropped open. THAT WAS TOO UNEXPECTED!!!! Zack shut Blaine's car door for me and Blaine drove off. I was left there, standing in the cloud of dust and shock Blaine left behind.

"So, who was that? He looked too young to be your father," he said. I looked down at my tennisshoes.

"Yeah, he's only my fathers close friend."

I was sitting in English class, with a blank piece of paper in front of me, and chewing on the pencil eraser. I remembered the woman from the other night, how she dressed, how she had her hair shampooed, and glossy. I looked down at my long black hair; it wasn't that bad, although it wasn't as silkys as hers must have been. She also was carrying a purse, her nails were done up all pretty and neat, I looked at my nails. Eh. They weren't long since I chewed on them a lot. Her style of clothing was expensive, more girly, I usually wore a plain T-shirt and skinny jeans. A pencil was suddenly thrown at my head, I looked up to see a girl behind me snickering. What the hell was her problem?

School was out, I expected Blaine to be pulling up any minute. I stood beside Zack, who still seemed to be my only friend for now. I didn't mind but I didn't like all the dirty looks I was getting from the other girls.

"So, is your friend coming to get you today?" Zack asked. I sighed quietly, I couldn't help but suddenly feel down by the way I was treating Blaine this morning, or the face he made before leaving me at school.

"I guess," I shrugged. Zack grinned at me.

"You are not the type of girl that pays attention to her surrounds, like in English class," He chuckled.

"Thanks," I said, even more depressed now.

        "I'm not saying it as a bad thing, truthfully, I like it. It makes you more interesting," He yawned. I looked up at him, surprised. I suddenly got a text and I pulled my phone out to look at it;

I'm sorry, running late because of work. Get a ride home.

        It was from Blaine.

"Oh, is that from your friend?" Zack asked. My heart shattered into a million pieces. I was on the verge of crying but I quickly thought about something else, then looked up at Zack.

"Yeah, guess I have to walk, haha. . ." Crap, I can't cry now.

"Hey, I'll drive you home," Zack said and pulled out the keys to his car.

"Oh, no! I don't want to do this to you!" I said quickly. I'd feel bad if he had to waste gas on me.

"Naw, it's cool," He smiled and pulled me by the hand. My face was burning with embarrassment. I glanced behind me to see the group of girls. Honestly, I couldn't help but snicker, they deserved it.

As Zack was driving me home, I didn't really say much. I was thankful I knew the way, thanks to Blaine giving the the address in case of an emergency.

"So, why is this guy being picking you up?" he asked, staring at the road. My fingers twirled around each other nervously.

"Well, I'm actually living with him," I said. It was the truth, there wasn't really any secrets.

"What!? Really?" His face lit up with surprise. "So, he isn't your boyfriend or anything?"

"Huh!? Boyfriend, ha! No way, I'd never," I laughed it off, then I regretted it. No, that isn't how I truly felt about Blaine. In the corner of my eye, I thought I saw Zack look relieved. I tried to ignore it. . .

We finally pulled into the driveway. I hoped out of his car and thanked him for the ride.

"I can pay you back tomorrow," I said. Zack smiled and shook his head.

"No need, I really don't need anything. It wasn't cool of that guy to totally just ditch you like that," He said. I nodded my head slowly. I'm sure Blaine has a good explanation, he was too caring of a guy.

"But really, I wan't to repay you," I insisted. Zack just stared at me.

"Then, a kiss on the cheek?" He grinned. My face turned bright red. "Ah! No! It was only a joke!" He chuckled. I was relieved. I smiled at him and headed into the house, waving as he sat in my driveway to make sure I got in the house okay.

"This sure is going to be one hell of a battle."
