Chapter 12: Old friends and Scary notes: Part 1

Veronica's POV

After a couple minutes when for sure Alec was completely asleep I got up and walked upstairs to see what Katy was doing. I walked upstairs and saw Katy sitting on the couch watching tv like nothing had happened. I rolled my eyes and walked out the front door and started walking down the sidewalk. I didn't know where I was going, but hopefully I would end up somewhere near the hospital. I wanted to see if Zach had woken up yet. I'm his parents would've called, but still I wanna see for myself that he is truly in a coma and the hospital isn't trying to hide him in any way. I continued walking down the street when I came upon what looked like train tracks. I started walking on the train tracks following them where ever they led me too. I was walking and suddenly I heard my name being called out. I looked around, but saw no one. I shrugged and continued on walking while looking around every couple minutes just in case someone WAS following me. Then I heard my name again.

"Veronica, over here" The voice said in a low quiet voice this time. I turned around in a complete circle, but saw no one. I growled in frustration.

"Just come on out you coward" I said while clenching my fists, while getting a little angry that someone was probably playing a prank on me. Suddenly a guy came out of a bush from my left side. I jumped back a little and stuttered.

"Wh..who are y..you?" I asked while biting the inside of lip from nervousness.

"It's me, remember, Nathan" said the guy while putting his hoodie down he had had over his head. I rolled my eyes.

"What do you want?" I asked him angry. He sighed and walked forward towards me.

"I'm sorry for what they did, but that's reason to be angry at me, I had nothing to do with it. I didn't even know why they had you in the first place" He said trying to reason with me. I sighed and looked at him.

"How can I trust you?" I asked him while putting my hands on my hips while looking at him. He rubbed his neck and turned around and lifted up his shirt showing his back. I gasped at the scars he had on his back. Some were faded, but some look fresh, as if they were just made today.

"Who did that to you?" I asked him feeling a little bad that I had gotten angry at him even though he had done nothing wrong.

"Justice. He blamed me for you being angry at him and not wanting to go back with him, so he whipped me with a metal tipped whip." He said to me while putting his shirt back down and turning around to face me again. I sighed and walked over to him sadly and put my hands on his shoulders.

"I'm so sorry Nathan. Did you escape or why and how did you find me?" I asked him curious as to why he had come to me in the first place.

"I escaped. I no longer wanted to suffer Justice's whip anymore, so I fled this morning before they woke up. My bag I had packed is in the bush over there." He said while pointing to a bush not to far away. I nodded and went over and grabbed his bag.

"Well maybe you can stay with me. I'm sure Alec and Katy won't mind" I said to him while smiling. He smiled back at me and nodded.

"But first I was on my way to visit Zach. Do you know where the hospital is?" I asked him. He looked at me a little shocked.

"Why is Zach in the hospital?" asked Nathan.

"Justice lit Zach's house on fire and Zach was fighting with Justice in the fire and Justice made it out but Zach didn't and was rushed to the hospital, and he had to get surgery and now he's in the hospital." I said while tears starting building up in my eyes. I looked at the ground and tried blinking away my tears, but it didn't help, a few managed to escape my eyes and rolled down my face.
