Third Person POV

Flashback

Will was frustrated. This was the fourth night in a row he had woken up to his six and a half year old son's screaming.

He wouldn't let his frustration show though, as he walked into Chandler's room and flipped on the light.

"What is it buddy?" Will asked, though he knew what it was.

Chandler is fully convinced that there is a red-eyed monster in his closet that wants to kill him.

"He's gonna get me dad..." Chandler whispered with frightened eyes as his small hands held tightly to his sock monkey.

William sighed and walked over to the closet and opened it.

"See? No monster. We talked about this buddy, monsters aren't real, remember?"  He asked as he went to sit on the end of Chandler's bed.

"Yes they are! I saw them on that picture at the comic book store. He was real!" Chandler insisted.

"Well no matter what, monsters will never get you. I won't ever let that happen buddy and for them to be in your bedroom they'd have to get through me first. I'll protect you." William said as he tucked Chandler back into bed.

"Promise?" Chandler asked, sticking out his little pinky finger.

William smiled down at Chandler and linked his pinky finger with his.

"I promise." He said and kissed Chandler's forehead.

End of flashback

Chandler leaned his head on the cold window of the backseat car door as Andy drove them home.

He was mentally exhausted, all he wanted to do was go home and sleep. His mom was in the passenger seat, talking quietly to Andy about filing for divorce.

The thought of never seeing his dad again made tears stream down his face, not being able to be angry at him just yet.

He was more hurt by his father than he had ever been. His dad had been cold to him, has humiliated him, beat him, but he's never let the worst monsters do anything to him until now.

But despite everything that he's suffered at the hands of his father, he was still his father. He'd never get another one.

And it was crazy to think that his mom was actually leaving his dad.

They've been through a lot and they've done some messed up stuff but they've always done it together.

Chandler supposes that it's because his mom isn't too high to function that she's now making rational decisions.

Chandler was brought out of his thoughts when Andy pulled into the driveway. He was really hoping no one would try and talk to him about anything right now, but luck wasn't always on his side.
