Chapter 8
How fries never tasted so good
Michaela's POV
Monday
I smiled, I actually found my mate, well technically, he found me. Is there a difference? The annoying nurses keep asking pointless questions, like can you talk, well haven't I been answering you?
"What's your name sweetie? It needs to go on record. Right now, you're a Jane Doe." One asks me.
"It's Michaela. Michaela Eden Moody." I respond. Looking at Nick, his eyes flare with surprise, anger, betrayal, and hurt. He looks over at his sister, her eyes showing some of the same emotions. I feel his anger corse through me. My hand flies up to my neck in surprise, he marked me! Nick stormed out of the room without another thought, slamming the door. I start to panic, was he leaving me? By now, the doctors started to back off, and Ella comes and stands by my side.
"It's okay. I promise. He'll be back." She tells me. I nod and wipe away a tear.
"Why is he angry?" I sniff and look her in the eye.
"Someone lied to him. They said that they didn't know you, but I guess he did." Ella told me.
"What! Who? Wait, how long have I been here?" I begin to realize, it couldn't have just been two days ago. I couldn't have gotten on a train two days ago. She looks at me sadly.
"It's been almost a year." She tells me. I stop breathing, this couldn't be possible, did I miss his funeral? The only person that would come? Or scratch that, there may be one other person who would have went.
"What the hell!" I scream.
"It's-it's it's not possible." I whisper, tugging on my hair. No one would have been there for him. I missed him. I shook with tears, this couldn't be happening.
"I-I-I missed it." I cry. Now all the doctors were gone, probably scared off from my emotional state.
"What did you miss?" She asks me.
"It, it was my brothers funeral. I came into town, to attend it, but then... something happened." I sigh to myself as I try and remember what even brought me to this stupid hospital. Then Nick came through the door, his eyes no longer grayish blue, now they were black.
"He comes and sits by my side, and I grab his hand.
"No sign of him?" Ella asks him. Nick shakes his head no and meets my eyes.
"No, but I will find him, I can't believe it, why would he say that? What did he have to gain from not telling us?" Nick asks.
"I knew he was a creep." Ella mutters beside me. Then Nick wraps his arms around me, and hugs me, it made me feel safe. I closed my eyes, cherishing the feeling.
"I'm just glad you're awake." He whispers. I hug him back, glad that he was here.

Nick's POV
I hugged her, so happy that she was here. I sat back my eyes meeting Ella's.
"Did you guys do all this?" Michaela asks us as she looks around at the balloons and stuffed animals.
"No, about that, we don't know who. They only left letters." I tell her. Her eyes swarm with confusion as I hand her both the letters. She takes them and looks over mine first. She laughs at one point, but then her face quickly turns to sadness. She grabs the one addressed to her, and quickly tears race down her cheeks. I grab her and hold her, still not understanding her pain, but I could feel it because of our bond.
"No no no no no. It's not fair." She whispers. I hold onto her.
"What isn't fair?" I ask her.
"She's alive, and it's not fair to her." She whispers. I hug her tighter as she shakes with sobs.
"She thinks I hate her, she thinks I blame her." She whispers. I hold her as Ella leaves the room.
She continues to tear up, not making sense. Michaela sighs leaning against me, she starts to fall asleep.

Michaela's POV
Tuesday
To say that Nick was mad would be the understatement of the year. The lady refused to let me out of the hospital.
"She's fine can't you just let her out? Look! She can walk, and her vitals are fine!" He nearly yells.
"Sir, it's obvious to a doctor, she needs rest and medicine." She tells him. I look at myself, I was completely rested, and I felt fine.
"Miss-" I begun but she shushes me.
"Sweetie, you need to rest. You've had a hard week." She tells me. I look at her bewildered. What the hell was she talking about.
"Honey, look at your arms! They're so skinny, it's sick. You need to rest up." She pats me on the head like a dog. Nick growls softly, very mad at this crazy woman.
"Miss! It's because I've been asleep for a year! What do you expect of me for sleeping for a year! That I would lift weights in my sleep?" I yell at her. She huffs at me and drags me back to my room.
"Can she at least leave for the day? To take a break?" Nick asks as soon as we reach the elevator. Her face immediately lights up.
"Of course sweetie! Why didn't you say so?" She asks us. She gives me a sheet of paper that was in her pocket. I stare at her, surprised. She walks away and turns around.
"Go ahead sweetie be back by five! It's bingo night! Oh and while you're out, don't eat salt!" She yells and turns away. Nick growls and grabs my hand. I sigh and squeeze his hand as we walk out.
"So where exactly did you want to bring me?" I ask him. I was ecstatic that he had brought me out.
"Let's go get you some salt." He laughs and grabs car keys out of his pocket.
"Could we just walk there? I'm not really in the mood for this kind of transportation." I ask him. He nods and steers me clear of the car.
"Of course, I know the perfect place." He tells me. We walk along for awhile, learning pieces about each other. His parents had disappeared after a rouge attack three years ago, and haven't been seen since.
"What about you? Where's your family?" He asks me as we arrive at a little shop that was called, Fries and Shakes. I laugh as he pulls me in. He orders us a huge plate of fries with extra salt, and chocolate shakes.
"Well?" He asks, holding my hand.
"Can we talk about it later? I wanna eat." I ask. He nods and we eat in peace, but I couldn't stop thinking, that he was gone, killed by them and she was still alive, who knew what pain she was going through.
