chapter one

Your POV:

Ever since I was a little girl, I've always wished I was stronger. Wished I could throw that rock a little further. Wished I could withstand the weight of that boulder a little longer. But whenever I try to visualize my inner power, whenever I try to connect with the earth, it always regects me. Almost like it doesn't want me.

My name is y-n, and I am an earth bender!

"SWEETIE!! SWEETIE!! ARE U AWAKE!!??"

You slowly open your iridescent emerald eyes to the sound of your beloved mother's voice downstairs.

You hurry downstairs and engulfe your bacon and eggs in one bite

You hurry downstairs and engulfe your bacon and eggs in one bite. You did not have time to spare as you raced out the door leaving your mother at a loss for words. You quickly spun yourselves around on your toes however before you even left the gate to quickly rush back in and give your mother a big hug before your burst out the door, leaving destruction in your wake.

Today was the day you've been waiting for for your whole life. Every action you've taken up to this point....every training practice... every scar left on your body from sharp stones...every spare moment of your day devoted to the ancient art of earth bending...has led up to this very day.

Your physical exam for
The Republic City Police!

You stood as the sole female amongst 100s of tall, serious men in a straight line stretching out miles, awaiting the arrival of the cold stoic Chief of Police herself

You stood as the sole female amongst 100s of tall, serious men in a straight line stretching out miles, awaiting the arrival of the cold stoic Chief of Police herself...Lin Beifong.

You inhaled deeply as you grounded your feet in the ground like you were always taught to do in high stress situations as an earth bender.

Time to do this.

ZHOLEKANAM!!!

You whip your head around to investigate where that defining noise of metal on metal came from. Your eyes landed on the applicant at the very end of the line. His motionless body left silent on the side if the pavement. There before him stood the knight we all knew and loved.

Ms Beifong.

"IF YOU CAN'T EVEN PREDICT A VERTICLE ATTACK FROM AN AUDIBLE MOBILE ENEMY THEN YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS HERE! GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!" Her snake like eyes stared down the unconscious man waiting for him to run for the hills. When he failed to respond to verbal stimulus, she resorted to slamming the end of her steel cap boot into his stomach, causing him to awake almost immediately in a coughing fit.

She stared him down, like a wolf looking at its prey. No words needed to be spoken. He was gone within seconds.

You swallowed the fear that had formed in your throat but you just couldn't get it down.

You were terrified.

She rolled her radioactive eyes and flicked her hair behind her back in disappointment. She began marching down the line, eyeing each and every applicant as she walked past. To a fair number of the she simply said "go" to and that meant they weren't good enough in her eyes and had to leave to train for another year before trying again.

You overheard a few men near to where you were standing whispering to each other.

"She's sending people home before she's even properly assessed their physical abilities. Talk about harsh"

"Its completely absurd if you ask me. Talk about not judging a book by its cover." The other groaned.

Suddenly Beifong stone right in front of them. You could basically smell their fear in the air.

"Go."
"Go."

You couldn't help but smirk at their karma.

Unfortunately for you however, Beifong noticed this display of amusement from you, and began striding towards your figure.

Fuck...

"Would you please explain to me what is so funny Miss y-n!!" She raised her voice at you looking down on your figure. It was only then you realized just how tall this monster of a woman was. She toward over you.

"She knows my name?" You thought to yourself.

''U-um...i-its just..."

"COME ON! SPIT IT OUT!"

"I SIMPLY OVERHEARD THOSE MEN TALKING NEGATIVELY ABOUT YOU AND I FOUND IT AMUSING THEY WERE THEN SENT HOME IMMEDIATELY AFTER MAM!!" You shouted at the top of your lungs, your back straight and your eyes steady.

You then reflected on your mistake immediately after. Perhaps honesty wasn't the best option there. You could hear giggles coming from some of the men around you. You cowered in shame realising what an idiot you've been. How unprofessional! You've have been made into a fool. You felt water form in your eyes.

"Don't you dare."

"H-huh?" You looked up at her with your innocent emerald eyes, sniffling and pouting.

She then pulled out a tissue from underneath her armour and began wiping your tears away, much to your surprise.

"Dont you dare cry." She looked down at your flushed face, your puffy cheeks stained with drying tears. She sighed deeply and looked down at your red cheeks fondly. You've never seen this side of her. So caring. So soft.

You would soon find out however that this side of her wouldn't last forever.
