(y/n) stood among the line of bodies, a murmur of questions and baited breath fluttered around the soldiers. The cadet stood with her chin up and a scolded expression, she had a masculine build with jaw-length hair and took to wearing the males uniform over the females. That only comprised of lower waisted pants and different patterned belts. She was in a foul mood already from her company getting on her nerves never mind being called early in the morning without explanation. The hall that they stood in was unfamiliar, she had no reason to be in here prior so she wondered what it was actually used for. Suddenly the large door opened, in stepped (y/n)'s hero figure, Levi Ackerman, Humanities Strongest Soldier. Butterflies swarmed her stomach but she kept her cool composure, shunning out intruding thoughts.

"Alright, Cadets. I imagine you are all wondering what you are here for. However, I will only get to that after I ask this one question. Is there anyone who can not keep a secret?" He asked the group, (y/n) could feel people shuffle in their spots but no one left. "Good, I trust you can all keep your gobs shut then" Levi started after a pause, (y/n) internally smiled, 'just as I would've said' she thought to herself. "You are all the top of your cadet divisions, so you have been especially chosen for my 'personal' training camp" Levi informed as he paced the line up, moving his prying eyes over the potential in the room, he landed his on (y/n). She played it cool, as always, and refused his glare. In no shape of the matter would she be caught making eye contact with him in such a official setting, the raven haired captain withdrew his gaze as quickly as he set it and continued down the line. The clench in (y/n) chest, however, did not leave once he moved on.

It turns out that (y/n) had found herself inside a dream, even if it led her to another training camp, this one lasting all of a week. the newly claimed 'Captain Levi' was looking for a squad of his own, and (y/n) out of the twenty other cadets he chose had the opportunity to join, as long as she worked for it. Working was her middle name, the young cadet didn't bother to spend her moments with small talk so she relied on herself and her ethic, and in know way would she be beaten to that spot. At this point in time it was the one thing that meant the world to her.

(y/n) spend all week; running laps, winning at specialist ODM training, gathering the most dummy kills and doing house chores. By the ending of the week she was worn out and spread thin, but by the last day she would face her biggest mission yet. The practical exam. The group of cadets and Levi moved out to open titan land, ground that (y/n) was familiar with. "This final test will over bare on all grading, if you fail there is a high chance you will not get chosen" Levi's words rung in her head causing a crushing weight on her chest and body.

She took to the skies when on coming Titans approached, her group headed to one Titan, slashing at its weak points to which it fell helplessly. (y/n) went off to her own Titan, hoping to slay it and be done as soon as possible, she had the confidence and stats to do all of this on her own, or so she thought. "Holmes!" her teammate called out, she had gathered the attention of the last 3 titans and they immediately headed for her. She didn't fear however but either way they were slain by her teammate, "hey! stay out of my way! I've got this!" she called out while mounting her horse. The others looked among themselves in disbelief while (y/n) muttered to herself, "There's no way am I letting other people ruin this for me, if I get this spot I'm getting it on my own!"

Levi watched from a distance, he clicked his tongue. Another round of Titans were heading to the group, (y/n) jumped early into battle but the others followed her none the less, she turned to scowl at them. When she did she noticed the shock on their faces, 'what is their problem?' she thought, suddenly she felt walls close in around her. The grip tightened on her and she could feel her arms digging into her chest, the space to breath became smaller and smaller. 'This is it, I've failed, I'm the biggest fucking idiot I know, how did this happen?' (y/n) panicked in her mind, slashes were made to the flesh that surrounded her and quickly she was freed, "FALL BACK!" Levi called out to the group around him as he slaughtered the Titans on his own. (y/n) knew then and there she was no match for Levi, and no match to be on his team.

After resting she was called later that night to Levi's office, shamefully she dragged her feet down the corridor. When she entered Levi sat with his head down as his pen scratched the paper, "sit" he ordered while using his pen to point to the sofa and table. (y/n) didn't even want to be in his gaze let alone discuss what she did, she felt guilty and stupid for ever thinking she had what it takes. She couldn't remember the last time she felt so pathetic, she'd worked hard to never feeling that way, but it was here and it hurt. Levi stood from his seat, "(y/n) (l/n), You have fifteen titan kills and forty assists. You completed all your tasks this week with flying colours, but-" (y/n) listened to every words the dropped out of his mouth, so much so she stopped breathing. "I failed, I know" she added impatiently, Levi paused and gave (y/n) time to think, he sat beside her. "There's no point in being angry with me, you made those decisions. Did you not understand the goal of the mission was teamwork?" Levi watched her as (y/n) refused his look once again and sighed to herself, she'd been a fool and easily put everyone's life in danger, there was no point arguing.

The two sat there, (y/n) was slowly caving into her negative thoughts. "it's such a shame, you could've made a great member" he added, Levi knew that (y/n) was a strong and prideful person so he was certain his words wouldn't effect her to much, or so he thought. He turned his head to see (y/n) pulling a tight and red face, he cocked a brow at such an expression before a small and uncontrollable tear rolled down her cheek. Staggered by her reaction he panicked on what to do next, Levi parted his lips but was suddenly shut down, (y/n) irrupted from her seat with mighty fury "Don't you dare leave me behind!" (y/n) cried out. "I will not go back! I do not lose! My ability is far greater then anyone on those sheets and you would be missing out if you don't take me with you! Do you hear me?" (y/n)s face was red with embarrassment and anger, she just couldn't control herself. Levi's face relaxed, "I need a solider who is strong" he spoke, "I am" (y/n) added, "I need a solider who is skilful" he paused, "I am" (y/n) repeated, "someone who is Courageous, assertive, intelligent and most of all able to risk it all" he finished, "you know I can be and do all of those thing!" (y/n) declared with salute. "Then Cadet, we will have no 'I before we' and you will learn teamwork" Levi's voice was stern, "I am willing to do anything that with further Humanity, sir!" she called out tightening her salute form.

"Well then it's a good thing I sent off your file just now for signing, I just needed to hear that from you" Levi muttered before returning to his desk, (y/n) stood there stunned at what he had said, she opened her eyes and watched him go back to his work. "You mean I'm..." she mumbled lowering her arms, "Part of the team? Yes. Now leave me in peace, and wipe your nose" he added with a sharp tone. (y/n) felt her body flutter with warmth and a beat in her heart, "Th-Thank you Captain, it is an honour!" she smiled before leaving the room. "Cadet wait" he ordered and (y/n) stopped before the door, "a word of advice, don't go making decision you know you'll regret" (y/n) turned to Levi, she looked him in the eye and nodded before leaving the room in silence.
