Levi x Reader (Angst)

He looks into her eyes like it's the last time, those (e/c) emeralds always appeared deeper when she looked at him, like a swallowing void that gave him a feeling he couldn't describe. However, he never hated it. "Levi..." she spoke so softly for the intensity of the moment, everyone rushed around them but they stood, lost in each other. "I'll be back before you know it" She smiled, the raven haired man was as stoic as ever, (y/n) frowned her brows and he knew she couldn't read him. For that, he blamed himself. "I.." he stuttered, unable to comprehend his thoughts, Levi wasn't good at speaking his feelings but he knew, now more then ever, he wanted to let (y/n) know how he felt. The amber lights of flickered candles and the cool night breeze brushed past, the room fell quiet and now just the two lovers stood alone.

"I want you to stay safe, I can't be there for you..." he sighed gripping his partners hand, "Don't be afraid, if you are then I'll be scared" she stated solemnly, Levi frowned. "Just tell me that you'll meet me back here, I don't want a promise, I just want hope" he smiled softly, (y/n) returned the gesture, "I will meet you back here, Levi" she batted her eyelashes. Levi's smile increased and he lowered a light kiss on her lips, one which (y/n) soon wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened. They were together, perfectly, heart beats in synchronisation and minds completely free from any intruding thoughts.

"Soldier, (L/n)! We need to move out!" An unknown voice called out, it broke them apart forcefully. "I love you" (y/n) mumbled to him, "I love you too" he whispered as the woman ran off, just before she left his sight she flashed him one last look.

Levi spend all those long five days worrying, he felt helpless that he was injured, if he could be there he wanted to be. One fond day while on duty he heard a familiar voice call to him, he searched the crowd and found a young brunette. "Captain!" The Scout called out, "We need to get soldiers to Wall Rose, it's the colossal and armoured Titan, Hange was right, it was them!" The sporadic information spewed from the girl as Levi's nerves settled in. "Alright, get the others ready, I'll be there soon" He ordered, "but sir, you shouldn't be fighting" the girl yelled towards him, she'd made such a scene that others joined in with the disagreement. Levi couldn't believe it, he only wanted to be with (y/n) during this fight, but how could he loose the respect of his Scouts by going against their trust, "it's okay Captain, we are trained after all, why do you not believe in us?" Mocking voices called out and he only bit his tongue.

Turning away aggressively the young girl skipped up to him, "hang on, I have a letter! Its from (y/n)" she waved the paper over to him, Levi took it and looked sternly at his name inked on the front with her hand writing. "She said that she knew you'd argue to fight, so she told me to tell you that she'd be more worried about you then herself. She wants you safe, here, so she can fight her best" the girl trailed off quietly, Levi couldn't do that to (y/n), she was right, it would be selfish of him to put himself and her in danger. Levi frowned slightly and pocketed the letter, "Thank you, Sasha" he mumbled before patting her shoulder, "you do your best and make sure (y/n) stays safe, that's an order" his oddly playful banter put a smile on the girls face, "Yes, sir!" She saluted before skipping off.

All of these memories seemed like centuries ago as Levi sits with the letter in his palm, its was a bitterly cold night when the news came in; everyone stormed home on their horses, but not her. No, he was told they had to leave, flee even, so fast they couldn't even take her body home. The candle beside him burned furiously, that being all that lit his dark room, the window agape as the distant chatter of passers waved in. His head was hung low, crippled and crushed with grief, his breathing practically nonexistent with the weight of sorrow holding his lungs tight. He stares into the floor, past the floor, imagining better times, torturing himself with 'what ifs' and regrets. He wanted to smash the room, he wanted to torch the place, see it burn down and run with out a care. He wanted to be caught within a monsters jaw, to feel that crushing feeling physically inflicted on him. Levi wondered what it was all for? That's it, there was nothing left, those creatures had taken everyone, everyone but him. Why did he have to live on? He once thought it was to meet (y/n), to live on with her, but now that was useless.

Why didn't he see it, how could he have given himself hope of her return. The letter lay in his hand, it wiggled with the wind, reminiscent of her touch on him. Levi's eyes shifted back to the paper, a lonesome tear dropped without warning, he read the words over and it broke him once more.

To my Beloved Levi,

There may not be a tomorrow, I may not meet you again but regardless, I loved you. I have nothing I regret and I hope you don't either.

Sincerely, (y/n).
