Levi x Reader

The patter of her feet scurry down the cobbled halls towards the Barracks common room, a candle placed in her hands to light her way as she curled into herself for warmth. It must have been the first few hours of the next day and the sun was still hidden. (Y/n) was sneaking around, trying to get to the comfort of a couch before getting caught, she was on her way to get a book to read from the shelves. Her small hand reached to grab the cold door knob when she heard shuffling behind her, "Cadet (l/n)" a stern and loud voice emerged from down the hall, (y/n) shuddered knowing who it was. "Captain!" She stuttered as she turned to see him out of uniform and with his arms crossed, his thin brows knitted tightly together. She internally cursed herself for getting caught this late. "Out late and being ill mannered, what to do with you?" Captain Levi clicked his tongue as he approached the door, (y/n) felt her face flush with the realisation she didn't salute him politely, "I'm sorry" she gasped as she adjusted her pose. The raven haired man past her uptight figure and gripped the door knob, "I'm just messing with you" he stated bluntly making (y/n) utter a awkward laugh.

Levi opened the door and the two entered, (y/n) shuffled uncomfortably towards the bookshelf, she wasn't to well acquainted with her superior outside of 'work' but she also hadn't been on the team that long. Levi on the other hand was rushing to find a conversation starter, the young female had already caught his attention early on but he felt uneasy about their age difference. "Couldn't sleep?" Levi mumbled while pulling out some books from the shelf as (y/n) scanned over the titles, "oh uh...no I guess not. I stupidly had a coffee before bed" She sputtered bashfully, Levi raised a brow and stopped his motions. "Why did you do that? Did you need to shit or something?" He asked rudely, (y/n) blushed a little wondering how to cover up the fact that she hoped to touch herself while the others were asleep, the colour deepened on her cheeks. "On the count of the fact that I don't want to tell you the reason, I am just going to agree with your assumption" (y/n) joked while presenting as high strung with her arms crossed and pointing her nose up at him. Levi chuckled lightly before returning to the book shelf.

(Y/n) was curious because it appeared that the Captain was looking for something, she peered over his shoulder and watched as his knuckles knocked a false wood panel that was hidden behind the books on the shelves. Within the small nook was a bottle of pure, smooth whiskey, golden in colour. The young Cadet gasped as Levi grabbed it and took it, "I didn't know you would do such a thing, Captain" (y/n) teased. "I don't, it's Hanji's, she doesn't know that I know where it's hidden, so don't go telling everyone. This is between me and you" he placed a fingers over his lips and (y/n) nodded sternly before cracking a smile. Levi passed the woman before sitting on the couch, "want some?" He asked as (y/n) skipped up to take a seat, "sure!" She smiled at him, the raven haired man flicked her forehead. "That's not the right answer, Brat. You're meant to refuse drinks from strange old men" Levi grumbled before pouring her and him drink, never the less, "I don't think you're a strange old man" she pouted rubbing where he flicked her. Levi peered to her lightly, admiring her playful side before giving her the small glass of whiskey.

"Be carful, it's strong" he mentioned, (y/n) rolled her eyes, "come on, it's not my first time drinking" she whined. Levi reclined in his seat, his brows still frowned but a cheerful smile threatening its way on his lips, "oh really?" He cooed mockingly, "you surprise me sometimes" he mumbled into his drink before sipping it. (Y/n) swallowed the alcohol and felt it run warm down her throat, "really?" She softly spoke, the two made quick eye contact but the young Cadet found her superiors gaze intimidating. "You don't look like you sleep well?" She asked innocently placing her drink down, Levi paused and waited to answer, "with a job like mine, you don't" he groaned, running a hand through his hair. (Y/n) found a new joy in seeing her Captain so relaxed, he always appeared uptight but the more he opened up the more she understood him. "I get bad dreams" he added shyly, "...yeah, me too" (y/n) sighed, "mine tend to be vivid and strange so I write them all down" she mentioned and Levi nodded, "is that so." (Y/n) took another sip of her drink, the room fell quiet, it seemed Levi didn't want to talk much about his dreams.

"Did you mean it, when you said that I surprise you?" The young woman piped up, Levi turned to her, he noticed that a She was good listener and because of that a lot of his words meant something to her. He appreciated that, suppose it meant she'd take orders well. "Of course, otherwise I wouldn't have said it" he added bluntly, (y/n) nodded with a sigh, "it's just...the commander asked me something and I felt a little insecure" Levi noticed the woman curl up on the couch and snuggle into the pillow. At the sound of Erwin's name he got all tense, 'whys the commander asking my team member? Is he trying to psych her out? That bastard, he shouldn't be bothering her' Levi's thoughts provoked him. "He asked me what we should do about the rising death toll on missions, at first I questioned why he was asking me, in all honestly shouldn't that be his concern? I guessed he just needed some input but I was nervous, it felt like he was testing me. In the end we couldn't make the decision if it was the lack of training or not, but I mentioned that it's up to the people to make the choice is they want to work hard and live" (y/n) got herself a little flustered explaining her frustration, Levi only found it cute. "Don't listen to Erwin, he's just trying to get under your skin" he groaned with an angry face, "What he's really asking you is whether or not you'll become Titan food, he's always making decisions that result in death, if it was up to me the reason why there's a high fatality rate is because of him" Levi snorted as his face twisted with bitterness.

(Y/n) stayed silent for a moment, she didn't realise that they didn't get on well. Levi slung back his drink, "don't worry, as long as you're with me I won't let that happen" he sighed, (y/n) peeked back to him and smiled sweetly, this made Levi's chest flutter. "Thank you, truly" she muttered, her heart thumped with happiness and joy. She couldn't pin point it but she was happy to have Levi tell her such things, he was a good person to speak to. After a while of casual talking (y/n) uttered a yawn, "oh my" she giggled, "I must be getting tired." Levi adjusted his sitting position, "You should try to sleep, don't forget you have training tomorrow" he sternly persuaded her, she stood up and nodded. "Alright, I'm going" she whined playfully, "I know it's not much to say but you should sleep too, they're just dreams after all and if you need to talk I'm here" she smiled politely before heading to the door. The raven haired man watched her, he said nothing but wished her good night, with that she left.
