“How’s your secret admirer?”

That’s Hank Buckner, also a detective and part of my team; he’s kind of annoying sometimes. When he knows you are in a case which is turning to be hopeless he would browbeat you.  Others find that unprofessional, but for me that is his way to challenge your guts.

HANK BUCKNER:”You know what Prescott, I think you should start thinking of changing your career, this pop candy case proves you don’t belong here.”

My partner Marty felt anxious. He interlocks his hand on the back of his head and looks straight at Hank.

MARTY TALONS:”Shut up Buckner! You are part of this team, why don’t you do your job and stop doing what you does best annoying people.”

Hank plastered a smirk at his face then cast a popping candy at my table.

HANK BUCKNER:”Good luck ladies.”

Then he went to his table next to ours. Me and my partner tables are adjacent and facing each other. Hank Buckner and Pete Garrison are partners; they’re both part of my team. We solved cases together and I am their team leader.

Somehow I felt that Det. Buckner doesn’t approved of that, me being the “team leader”, He’s seven years my senior. But his partner Pete Garrison who happened to have his same age seems pretty okay with the idea.

“Prescott is good, she knows what she’s doing and she’s great at what she does.” That’s what I heard Pete Garrison said to Hank Buckner when Cpt. Fuller assigned us to be the ALPHA team of his office.

It’s not that Hank or Det. Buckner as I called him does not follow my order or put any of our investigations in jeopardy. It’s just that he can be really annoying with his browbeating.

MARTY TALONS:”I won’t be surprised if you thought Buckner is pop candy.”

HANK BUCKNER:”I heard that.”

I smiled at Marty and look at Hank, he’s 5’10 inches tall, with a muscular built, blue eyes, he’s good looking and friendly, in fact when I first report for duty he was the one who acknowledge me first. Marty doesn’t like him though.

I turn my look to the popping candy Hank casted on my table; I pick it up to take a better look. Then take a good look at Hank Buckner again. Pete Garrison is seating in front of Hank.

PETE GARRISON:”Hey, Prescott you don’t honestly think Buckner is our guy?”

I looked at Pete with my face plastered a serious look. Ever since we handle pop candy case I have always been this serious, I have no time for jokes, pop candy is not a joke, he’s abusive behavior is not a joke.

HANK BUCKNER:”I suggest you find a hard evidence on your theory Prescott, because people in this office started to think you are nuts.”

Hank is looking at me and I sensed some anxiousness on his face. I turn my eyes and take a look at the popping candy again; I breathe hard then lean my back on my chair and looked at the evidence plastered on the board on the right side of our table.

There were pictures of the victim, the dates they were abducted and the dates when we found them, there were coordinates, facts and other evidence to trace our guy. And I sigh with disappointment. Zero, we are in a hopeless situation.

CPT. FULLER:”Prescott!”

Our chief motions his hand and told me to come into his office. I was reluctant for I know my captain would just scold me, but then I have no other choice; though I am indispose to face Cpt. Fuller I don’t want to behave insubordination to our chief.
