"He's not whole without a soul to wait upon."

Draco Malfoy's POV 

She left and took my own soul with her. I felt a light swift as my sanity flew away from my body, flowing around the air. A huge rock sat on my heart as my ears witnessed the two words coming out of the Dark Lord's lips.

"Avada Kedavra!" 

Katherine was gullible. She put other's life before hers.
And this time, she put Bonnie's life before hers. 

I saw her slip away with my own eyes. 

And so did everyone else in the battle.

Damon immediately fell on his knees. "No- No- No- You can't be- You can't be dead." He repeated the same sentences over and over again. Numb tears sprinting down his cheeks, as well as Stefan's.

He didn't move. He stood like a statue watching Katherine fall on the floor. His fingers turned into a fist as his eyes cursed for Voldemort. 

Caroline. Oh, Caroline. She screamed for her life. Refusing to believe she just lost both Elena and Katherine on the same day, same hour.   

Bonnie was already dead inside. 

She froze in her place and stared down at her friends' corpse.  

No tears came down her eyes. 

But fear was very visible from every corner of her. Fear and guilt. Sadness and grief. 

And then, there was me. 

There was a Draco Malfoy who had just lost his only reason to keep breathing. I felt half of me get torn up and crumble into pieces. While the other half fought to breathe through the pain. 

I moved my feet from the ground and started running to her. 

She couldn't be dead.
She can't be. 

"Katherine, no!" I shouted as I ran as fast as I could, pushing everyone around me until I reached her body.  

I fell next to her and had a whole minute of eye contact with her not blinking eyes. 

My hand was shaking, but somehow I managed to tuck her hair behind her ear like how I used to do it when she stayed over in my dorm at nights. 

I slowly lowered my fingers down to her jaw and massaged her cheek with my thumb. The way I used to hold her face whenever I whispered to her, I will always take care of you, was all I promised her.

I shattered the only promise I made for her. 

I heard Voldemort give a bitter, devil long laugh. 

I tried to ignore him as I processed the absence of Katherine's soul in her heart. 

"Stefan?" Caroline gripped on his shirt, "Stefan! Stefan, please don't leave me as well!"
