Maevis crumbled down, her eyes glazing over and crimson liquid leaking from the side of her upper torso.
"Mae!" Raffaela exclaimed, rushing towards her. Gavril, Micah and Seraphine were also by her side within seconds.
Lysandra wobbled towards the plum-eyed, tears flowing down her face.
"Micky, take care of Sera and yourself," Maevis said, gasping for air in between as Micah pressed onto her wound.
"You are not leaving, Mae. No!" Seraphine hiccupped. "Where the hell are the medics! Call for them! Micah, press onto her wound, don't let go, she can't lose more blood!"
"Violet, stay. Please," Lysandra murmured, catching the raven-haired bellator's slight smirk.
"See you in hell, blondie." Maevis's head fell back and her eyes rolled to the back of her head as her breathing became non-existent. Seraphine fell down onto the cold body of her best friend, wailing while Micah held her tight. He was trembling with tears as well. Gavril and Raffaela who treated Maevis as their own mourned too, holding onto each other.
Nyo Baraka was standing in a corner, sadness cloaking her. Avgustine and Nikolaus were nowhere to be seen. Lysandra's heart felt heavy and the tears would not stop. Not wanting to stay there further, she got up to see Eucarpus growl and pick up a dagger to attack the vampyre lord who had just commanded his followers to leave the room and take Faustus to be locked up in a dungeon. But before her father could get to him, Emperor Akikazu lodged his sword into the King's mid-section. Driven by wild rage after the death of his wife, his movements turned sloppy and he did not pull his sword back in time, only for it to maim the King.
Eucarpus gasped before toppling over. Zemira scrambled to her husband followed by Timotheus and his wife. Lysandra could not move, as if she was paralysed. She mutely saw her father shake before the last breath pushed past his lips, leaving him dead and cold. Zemira whimpered in utter anguish, holding her head in between her hands.
Lysandra stomach churned. Everyone was in their own bubble and she stood there, her eyes darting towards different people in the room but her body stayed glued to the floor. She did not even dream of the tables turning and everything turning out the way it did. However, she did feel warm arms wrap around her and pull her into a broad chest she very much recognised.
She swiftly turned around. "Laur," her lower lip wobbled as she broke down, sobbing in his arms. He lifted her off the ground and she wrapped her legs around him, holding onto him because she was not sure if she would stay rooted otherwise. His arms were placed beneath her as he held her close.
"It's all over now, Lysa. It's okay."
It really was over. But the question was - would everything truly be okay?
Her wine toned dress lay flat, just past her knees. It was her coronation as Queen and the attire suited her reckless personality. Her hair was open, moving back and forth in the chilly dawn wind and she couldn't care less. Lysandra couldn't believe she was finally at peace. She stood out their in the balcony of her chambers, staring at the warm skinned sky. For once, she knew what to do and she was sure her statement will be abided like the law.
After her father's death, the kingdom was rightfully passed to her. Timotheus and his wife migrated away, sensing they had no potency in Athens Royale anymore. Zadkiel followed suit, claiming he wanted to explore the world. The other rulers went to their own kingdoms after offering their regards to the new Queen. Nyo was delighted to know another kingdom would be ruled over by a woman. Lysandra would never forgive her mother but she let her stay in the castle, informing her she would be taken good care of. The woman, wrecked by the sudden demise of her husband, barely came out of her chambers anyways.
The mortal family she grew up with was safely escorted back to Mantisdor, their memories erased, all thanks to Maevis and Laurent.
Maevis's death was not easy on anybody, her included, but for the sake of the kingdom, they were all pulling through. She had thanked Abraham a million times for saving all of them and signed a peace treaty with the vampyres, promising to coexist until they go after earthens, compelling the bellators to take some action.
Hours passed and she stood amongst the huge crowd of bellators, cheering for her. She looked over at Laurent who stood beside her, looking dashing as ever. She couldn't believe he managed to make her fall in love and that he stood by her through everything.
She bowed down as Raffaela placed the crown atop her head and kissed her forehead in adoration but, the weight of the responsibilities seemed to suffocate her already. She sighed in relief knowing that somehow, she was about to do the right thing.
Lysandra turned to the front after offering her aunt and wide grin. She silenced their cheers with the flick of her hand and with a quick click of her fingers, she brought forth a little hissing fire, dancing in between her fingertips.
"This fire is the desire burning within me. The desire to serve the kingdom." Her voice was mellow and yet, authoritative. "I shall not compromise in that, especially after what my parents had done. But, I am sure that this is not the position for me to do so. So, I hereby declare Celeste as the Queen of Athens Royale. She is the true heir, the one who actually has the capacity and right to rule."
Hearing absolute silence, Lysandra laughed to herself. Of course, only a mad person like her would give up power. Laurent had a knowing smirk painted upon his face and he winked at Lysandra, evoking a heat to spread across her cheeks and turn them red. She walked over to Celeste and led her onto the throne, taking her crown off and placing it upon her head.
"Your new Queen, everybody!" she declared and Celeste could do nothing but rejoice in the people's encouraging chants. She was determined to just do one thing - make her parents proud and she would do that even if it was the last thing she could do. She would strive to give the people of Athens Royale the life they deserve.
Seraphine hugged Lysandra as soon as she got down the stage. Micah ruffled her hair while she scowled at him. Celeste rushed down soon after, only to be hoarded by congratulations and tight hugs. Raffaela and Gavril beamed at them, seeming happier than ever. Laurent found himself making his way towards Lysandra and standing by her, his hands on her hips.
"I'm so proud of you, baby," he whispered, placing a hard kiss on her neck.
"Get a room," Celeste murmured scrunching her nose up.
Everyone burst out laughing and Lysandra whirled around to bury her face in her lover's chest, holding his warm body to her.
Now that she thought about it, things did seem more than okay.
