- continuation of pt 1it's been a year and a half. only a year and half. and jules in back in town. specifically, with rue.
rue invited me into highlands to meet jules in person for the very first time. i don't know how to really feel but i hope they're both on better terms now. i put on a flannel to compliment my outfit and adjusted my jewelry, looking in the mirror and sighing in content.
i drove to the diner rue and i always went to, pulling into a parking spot. my palms felt a bit clammy and i recognized my leg slightly bouncing up. i didn't want to give a judgement on jules because it was simply wrong of me. i've only heard rue's side of the story. i don't know jules nor her perspective on everything. rue always held jules' name up as if it was of utter importance and always told me she was good-hearted. so i believed her and that's all i'm gonna think about when i see jules.
i sighed and took my purse, finally stepping out of my car and entering the diner. the slightly modern, 90s theme of the furniture and setup within the room hit me all at once, welcoming my mind into the very familiar atmosphere, which slightly relaxed me.
i only had to scan the room over one time to find rue and jules at a booth. oh my god. that's jules. all the details rue described to me on the day here in this diner where i sketched jules were starting to echo in my head and connect those details with the dyed, blonde hair girl currently laughing and sitting next to my friend.
"she had a small, rectangle-like facial shape. a very big, european, triangle nose that stuck out with a smooth bridge, no bumps." "she had clear skin with only a small mole on the left side of her face below her eye, kind of brushing up on the top of her cheek." "her eyes were.. like this indulging dark blue that represented the ocean. like it had this deepness where you could look into them all day yet it also had this emptiness that was hard to read past—that smile and her personality were the only things that covered everything up..."
my eyes slightly widened in amazement as i kept staring at them; jules looks exactly like the person i imagined her to look like. it's like one of my sketches actually came to life. is this what it feels like to be a composite artist?
rue eventually turned her head away from jules and met my gaze, a smile growing on her face. jules followed what rue had her attention on and had her eyes on me as well. i smiled and waved at them. rue waved back and asked jules to move over, getting out from inside the booth and telling the waitress that i was eating with them. the waitress nodded and handed me a menu, rue and i both thanking her.
rue put her arm around my shoulders, giving me a slight side hug and escorting me to our booth. jules looked at me with a warm smile that never left her face. "cmon sit down! get comfy." i giggled a bit at rue's anxiousness when she spoke to me. nevertheless, i complied and sat down in the seat across from them.
"so, jules, this is y/n. my good friend i was talking to you about before." rue started the conversation with an introduction. jules held out her hand from across the table and i took it, shaking hands with her. i stared into her features once more and realized how accurate my sketch surprisingly was. "hi y/n. it's nice to meet you." her voice sounded very different than what i expected though. her voice was somewhat childish yet adult-like and her words had a slight lisp that i found adorable. i lightly chuckled and smiled wider. "hi jules. it's nice to finally meet you too." "let me guess, rue didn't stop talking about me when i was gone?" we all chuckled a bit and i shook my head, joking around. "you got that right." i replied, making jules smile more.
