My body started to move slightly, stirring awake. I quietly groaned to myself upon taking in my surroundings, feeling another presence brushing up against me.

I turned and looked down at the girl who was still sound asleep next to me, having her arms and legs tangled around my body. I couldn't help but crack a smile at her. I'm glad she's still here.

I looked around my room and immediately tried reaching for my phone on the nightstand. I accidentally grabbed Maddy's phone as I turned it on at the site of her lock screen. My eyes widened a bit with realization. As I was about to put her phone back down, a few notifications caught my eye. It was text messages and a few missed calls from Cassie.

cass💫

cass💫

cass💫
it's important

cass💫

cass💫
maddy??

cass💫
just call me back when you can

My curiosity started to dip as I read the notifications and the time they were sent. It was last night when Maddy was on her way here. She didn't bother to pick up the phone for her best friend because of me. I'm also assuming her phone is on silent right now.

I glanced over at Maddy, looking at her peaceful figure sleeping away. I felt bad for looking at it and holding Maddy back last night. I had a feeling in my stomach that whatever Cassie was trying to say, it was important. As her close friend, I won't intrude on her business.

I carefully placed her phone back where it was and then took my phone, looking at the time. 3:43 am. We took a good 3 hour nap and the alarm I set was gonna go off at 4. I turned off my alarm and set my phone back down.

I slid over, getting closer to Maddy, and started poking at her and gently shaking her. "Maddyyyyyy." I dragged her name, whispering in her ear, trying to get her to wake up. I was desperate to get some mcdonald's right now and I know Maddy's the type of bitch that would never pass up on food if it's from me. She used to get mad whenever she was at sleepovers and she fell asleep while her friends were having food. She'd snap at them for not waking her up.

"Come on, cunt! I don't wanna give you cpr." Upon exclaiming that in a loud, accusing whisper, she finally moved her body, turning over and groaning abruptly. "What the fuck was that?" She gently snapped at me, her groggily voice making an entrance. I giggled at her. "Morning, hoe." I cooed at her, making her scoff and turn over on her stomach, digging her face in her pillow.

"So are we getting mcdonald's or what?" I questioned, staring down at her while smiling. "Oh yeah. What time is it?" She lifted her head up to reveal her eyes looking up at me. I grabbed my phone and turned on the screen. "3:45." "Damn. Time's a loser." We both chuckled as she finally turned all the way on her back, stretching out.

I got up from my bed and lightly stretched my arms, a yawn escaping me. I looked back and saw Maddy sitting up, motioning for her phone. I grabbed it off the nightstand and handed it to her.

She began to get up and brush herself off. "You have a comb I can borrow real quick?" I nodded and went over to my vanity, handing her a comb as she combed her hair while looking in the mirror. I didn't even bother to fix myself except putting on a pair of shorts.

After we got ready, Maddy dragged me to her car and started driving to the mcdonald's we always go to. We were so lucky to have one that was open 24 hours. She gave me the aux cord and I put on our shared spotify playlist. It was a collection of songs we both enjoyed and vibed hard to.

I turned the volume slightly down since we just woke up and we weren't feeling energetic enough for blasting music. Maddy rolled down the windows a bit, letting the cool breeze break in throughout the car. We sat in silence for a while, bopping our heads to the music.

We finally got to the mcdonald's and I could tell Maddy was getting in a good mood. She had an ecstatic smile on her face as we shut the car doors behind us and she immediately grabbed my hand and dragged my sorry ass in. "Come on! I'm hungry!" "If you say so."

We ordered a bunch of random food including some coffee and sat at a booth in the corner of the place despite all the tables being empty, chatting up a storm of randomness like we always do whenever we came together. Maddy seemed to be back to her state of happiness as we were talking. Her eyes looked like there was more emotion in it and her face was finally smiling more than I've seen in the past week. It made me really happy to see my friend becoming a bit better after visiting me. That's all I wanted for her right now. To support her through everything and see her at her highest. I'd never give up on her or fail to see her face light up, which is exactly what's happening right now.

After dining in and buying even more mcdonald's for the ride home, we decided to drive down to a small playground we love going to. When we got out of the car, we both jumped for joy and started running around the playground like little kids. We went on the swings for a while and then walked to the farther end of the park to find a bench.

Upon sitting down, I looked up to see that the sky was turning a shade brighter as the sunrise was nearing. Feeling a pair of eyes on me, I turned towards Maddy who was just smiling at me. I love that smile. I can't even comprehend how people can get bored of her smile and the way she talks. We sat in silence for a while, basking in our presences.

"Can I be honest?" Maddy questioned, breaking the comfy silence between us. I hummed in response, wondering what she was gonna say. "Thank you. Like for real though. I really needed this." I nodded as she continued on, slightly turning my body more to face her and give her all my attention. "I've just been feeling really horrible and crappy for god knows how many days went by already. And I've been so angry and.. sad at myself for everything that went down with Nate." She was trying to process and shed light of her thoughts while she was talking, articulating the right words to say.

"I pushed everyone away thinking it will make me feel better but it made me feel even worse. I-I thought I was gonna lose you.." Her voice started trailing off as I can see her mind recollecting all the bad feelings she felt. Her face slowly turned pale and her expression looked almost regretful.

I quickly scooted over to her and hugged her close to me. She immediately accepted my arms wrapping around her tightly. "I would never leave you, Maddy. I actually got scared because I thought I'd lose you." I admitted. She shakily exhaled at my words. "I'm sorry I made you feel that way." She mumbled with a slight crack in her voice. "I'm such a dumbass for doing that."

"No, you're not." I gently pulled her away from me so I could look into her eyes. "You just needed some space and I get that. If you ever need that, please tell me beforehand alright? I'd never get mad at you for doing that. I'll always stay here for you." Maddy's eyes twinkled while looking into mine. A light smile spread across her lips. "You know, I love you. Like you're always by my side and you deal with me and this bullshit. You stayed for so long and I just want to thank you and the fucking universe for that."

We both let out an airy chuckle. She wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled herself closer to me. We squeezed each other before pulling away. "You're welcome, Mads. I promise I'll never leave your side." And that was a promise I'll always keep.
