The next day they walk into town together hand in hand. They had stop in the jewelry looking at rings.
Jessie seen one that just took her breath away.
"Look Caleb" she says full of excitement
"You like that one"
"Yes"
"Then it's yours"
He pulls her close and she smiles up at him, their lips touching ever so softly.
"I love you Jessica Hunter"
"I love you too"
Before long it was all over town that Jessica Hunter and Caleb Blackwood was engaged to be married. Mrs. Hunter was excited about her daughter, the whole town was full of excitement for the new couple. Except one, deep in the woods hiding away Gabe heard the news and anger boiled his blood.
He set at the table, this cannot go through Jessica Hunter was his. He had made his mark on her. Swigging down the last of the whiskey he stands. Grabbing his cote off the hook he starts to Hanks.
Jessie stands behind the bar serving up drinks. She wears a smile on her porcelain face, but when she hears the doors swing up and look up her smile fades.
Gabe makes his way to the bar. His eyes on Jessie as he sits on the stool.
"Give me a whiskey honey" he tells her
Her eyes look around for Caleb, not seeing him there she swallows the lump in her throat and gets a whiskey for Gabe. As she places the dark drink in front of him he grabs her arm. Her eyes go to his.
"Let me go" she breathes
He smiles up at her
"Thank you" he hisses
She jerks away from him, her eyes darting around the room. She moves as far away from his as she can.
"Get me a Bourbon baby"
She looks meeting Caleb's eyes she smiles. Getting him what he asked for.
"Where you been" she asked
"I had some things I had to do" he tells her
"You walking me home tonight"
He motions with his four finger for her to lean in. she gets close to him so close she can feel his breath.
"I was hoping we would go to my house just for a little while"
She smiles
"You dirty minded man"
"You make me that way"
She sneaks him a little kiss
"Ok"
"Ok" he repeats her
"Get me another whiskey sweet heart" Gabe calls out
And like that her pretty smile is gone
"What is he doing here" Caleb's words where laced with anger
"It's a saloon Caleb he's allowed in here" she says
"You going to serve him"
"I have too it's my job" she study's his face "Caleb please not tonight"
"Alright" he let out a breath
"Hey baby, I'm talking to you" Gabe yells
She greets her teeth together than grabs a bottle of whiskey off the shelf. She takes her time going over to him. She sits the bottle on the counter in front of him.
"Thank you sweet thing" he sings
She starts to move and he grabs her arm again. Her eyes go to Caleb.
"Forget about him come home with me" Gabe says
"Never, let me go" she tries to jerk her arm away but he holds on tight
Her eyes go back to Caleb,
Caleb set there and watched as Gabe grabbed Jessie's arm the anger he was feel was a pool of lava now. When she looked up at him with pleading eyes he stands going around the counter, he stops.
"Gabe" Hank calls out hitting him on the back "Hey buddy"
"Hank" Gabe says
"I got something to show you" Hank says
Gabe gets up taking the bottle of whiskey with him. Caleb sits on the stool looking up at Jessie.
"You ok" he ask
She nods
They didn't see Gabe again that night, after Hank went home Jessie grabs her things.
"Ready" Caleb asked
"Yes"
He take her hand and leads her to his house.
She lays in his arms smiling up at him.
"I have to go home" she tells him
"In a 36 days this will be your home" he says
She smiles
"I can't wait"
He lean to her kissing her.
"I Love you Jessie"
"I love you too"
"Maybe you should think about geting another job"
She looks up at him
"No I can't not right now, I need that money"
He kesses her head
"And what if Gabe comes back" he ask
"Hank will take care of Gabe" she lays back down "Just until after the wedding"
"Alright, but than you will quit"
She smiles
"Yes, now I really must be getting home"
"And what if I don't want you to go home"
She smiles again
"Caleb, you know I can't stay"
"But only if you could, I would be waking up to you"
She looks up at him, getting up onto her knees the cover falling away.
"You're vary beauitful you know that" he tells her caressing her body
"So you say"
His strong hand goes up her bare back.
"Stay a little longer"
She climbs on top of him looking down into his eyes.
"Haven't you have enough Caleb Blackwood"
"I could never get enough of you Jessica Hunter"
She smiles, leaning downing kissing his lips.
