Adam has never met my dad before, and who knows how long he's been here before I got home.

"Well Lexi, Adam and I were just discussing sailing. He's a fine young man and knows a lot more about boats than anyone I've ever met." My dad gave me a big smile. Relief flooded through me and I relaxed.

"Adam I didn't know you knew how to sail."

"Well, I was going to take you out today after we went into Boston. That's where our boat is right now. But we can go some other time. How was the doctors, by the way?"

"Oh uh it was fine. He says it's getting better and that I can wear wrap instead of the boot."

"Wait I thought you went into Boston with mom." my mother obviously forgot to fill my dad in.

"The doctor was in Boston and we went shopping afterward." I made it up and hopefully Adam bought it.

My mom kicked my father and he got the message.

"Oh right I came here to give you these." Adam handed me pink peonies and it was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me.

"Oh Adam they are beautiful!"

"I thought they might cheer you up after the doctors visit. It's too bad you missed it today, we went to see Kenney Chesney practice, and Alexa Pisano was there!"

My parents faces were etched with concern. Jeeze guys, way to play it cool.

"Oh was she?"

"Yea and she even sang Something in the Water. I know it's your favorite song and I felt sort of guilty for being there without you." he looked really sad that I wasn't there. Oh Adam, I was the one singing!

"It's ok, I can just listen to Carrie Underwood sing it." I gave him a reassuring smile.

"Ok well I should let you go, we have a big day at school tomorrow." Oh school! I forgot! I missed a whole week due to my injuries.

"Oh that's right!"

"I'll pick you up at 7:15," he kissed me on the cheek and got up.

"Very good to meet you sir, I hope we can get out on the water soon," he shook my fathers hand.

"Mrs. Sanders, always a pleasure." He gave my mom a charming smile.

"Thanks for the flowers Adam, I'll see you tomorrow."

"Bye babe, see you tomorrow." He walked out and I couldn't help but let my big goofy grin take over.

"Well he's a very nice boy."

"Thanks dad. You really like him?"

"Yes, I do. He's very polite and seems to adore you."

"Oh I'm so happy you like him. Mom said there was chicken, can I have some?"

"Sure here you go." he pushed a plate full of chicken and mashed potatoes towards me. I've never eaten so fast in my life.

"So you're Lexi Sanders now?" Oh that's right, I have to fill my dad in.

"Yes. I just kind of made it up. Lexi is another nickname for Alexandra so I kept it simple with that. And I just pulled Sanders out of my ass."

"Alexa" my mother shot me a disapproving look. My dad just laughed at me.

"How did today go at the arena?"

"It was terrifying!" I explained all that happened to my dad.

"Well shit honey that was a brave thing you did. I'm proud of you." he hugged me and I squeezed him as hard as I could.

"Mom, can you help me pick out an outfit for school tomorrow?"
