Insecurities, Driver's License, and Prom (Nini x Ricky)

Author's note: When I saw that the new character Lily is played by Olivia Rose Keegan in season two I knew that I had to write something about her. This is just a story. Please don't hate me because I'm using Olivia's song or because I'm using RINI in this story. I hate that books hardly ever have characters like me in it. I have diabetes and am super insecure about it. I wish that I had a Ricky Bowen to comfort me. Before you comment anything, please take a moment and listen to Olivia Isabel Rodrigo's master piece, 'Driver's License'. Please refrain from commenting any hsmtmts drama and please don't send my hate for writing this. Thank you. Again, I simply wrote this because there aren't any stories with characters with type one diabetes like me. This all fanfiction not reality please be considerate that I am the author of these books. If you don't like the approach or storyline I wrote then please don't say anything at all.

For as long as she could remember, Nina Salazar-Roberts was insecure of her body. Everything about it seemed  wrong and she hated her imperfections like her scars. Everyone around her assumed that she had an eating disorder or was just insecure but none of those rumors were true. The only person who knew why she was so insecure was Richard Bowen also known as Ricky Bowen, her current boyfriend.

He was with her when she got diagnosed with type one diabetes. In middle school, she fainted one day at the park and he thought he almost lost his best friend. Ricky stayed at the hospital with her till she was diagnosed and she broke down when she heard the news that something was wrong with her body.

Throughout the rest of middle school, Ricky waited for her to get her insulin shots from the nurses' office before lunch time everyday and whispered her kind words went she got bruises on her stumach. He even defended her when the eating disorder rumors started and sat with her at lunch when Big Red said something mean to her one day by accident.

During Nini's freshman year of high school, Ricky had gotten that gut feeling of being in love. He had to make a move or else Nini would be taken by some freshman jerk who didn't deserve her love. When homecoming season came around, he planned the perfect proposal for her. He wanted to ask her to be his girlfriend.

One day after school, Nini and Ricky were walking home from school, when suddenly out of the blue, Ricky made a wrong turn by coincidence and stopped at the park where they found out she had diabetes or when she got sick. Nini sat on one of the swing sets looking at her best friend curiously wondering why he had stopped at this exact park when all of a sudden Ricky got down on one knee in front of her and held a ring box with a ring pop in it.

Nini laughed at him remembering the ring pop wedding that they had during their elementary school days before she was diagnosed with diabetes, and when she could eat those ring pops that had way too much sugar. Before she could speak Ricky took out a folded, crumpled sheet of paper from his coat pocket and held it out for her.

Nini read the sing carefully without missing a word and started crying happy tears. Ricky had given her the perfect promposal letter that said 'Your blood sugar may rise after you accept my proposal to homecoming because the thought of you and I together forever is pretty sweet." While Nini was crying on the swing set, Ricky came over to her and hugged her to calm her down. After a few moments, Nini wiped her happy tears and hugged her best-friend as he slipped the ring pop onto her finger assuming that her hug meant yes to homecoming.

During Ricky and Nini's sophomore year, they both starting acting flirty towards each other during lunch and classes. Nini's friends seemed to catch onto what was happening, and planned an emergency theater meeting for Nini to attend to. Meanwhile, Ricky was sitting in the school music room when all of a sudden his friends Carlos and Seb ran into the room saying that talent show sign ups were being posted in the theater now and he had to sing up since he was so talented. When he got to the theater, he realized that it was all a set-up and saw Nini standing on the stage by herself looking for somebody. She hadn't noticed that he was in the room, and wanted to surprise her, so I walked over slowly to the the stage and stood behind her. Unfortunately, Nini was not scared when she saw him behind her. She knew his cologne from a mile away it was some stupid thing called 'Throb' that some lady sampled him at the mall one time. As the two lovers stood on the stage between awkward silence, Ricky's hands were shaking since he's been dying to get a moment alone to ask her the big question. Without thinking about what he was going to say, Ricky blurted out 'Do you want to be my girlfriend?" to Nini when she was staring at his curls and she immediately leaned over to hug him tightly. He assumed that meant yes nad kissed her on the forehead afterward.
