The ringing of a phone had everyone turning their attention away from Eddy who was being taken out of the room. Realizing the ringing was coming from his phone Niall pulled it out, his face twisting at seeing who the number belong to.
"Put it on speaker, Niall." His boss directed, moving to sit in a plush seat. Letting it ring one more time, Niall hit the accept button before putting it on speaker.
"What is it, Milo?"
"Hey, Niall. It's about the girl." Milo knew very well where they were at, keeping his voice flat and unemotional. This had Niall's attention as his eyes looked over toward Ian who had turned his attention from Keaton towards the phone and Niall.
"What happened?" Niall spoke his words carefully, feeling his boss's eyes on him. He needed to show him that he was keeping things under control.
"We tried to get her to eat but-well-she blacked out."
"Blacked out?" Ian answered in question, not liking where this was going.
"Yeah, she stood up saying she needed the bathroom but passed out. Layton caught her in time. She's burning up but is shaking like a leaf and we don't know what to do."
Running a hand down his face, Niall let out an easy breath before speaking up.
"Just keep her where I told you to and make sure nothing happens. We'll back soon." Niall was not having the best day so far and it appeared it was just going to keep on getting worse.
They exchanged their final words before both hung up, Niall sliding his phone into his back pocket as he looked towards his boss who was now spinning a remote in his hands.
"Niall, tell me what went wrong on this mission." The words had small shivers running down Niall's spine. The way his boss kept his voice even and with no emotions told Niall he was pissed.
"We didn't prepare for any possible people not in the lobby of the bank, sir. It was a small mistake."
This drew a snort from their boss, who leaned back into his seat and hit a button on the remote. A TV across from Niall turned on, the local news broadcast coming across the screen.
Breaking news at 7 o'clock! With hosts Gale Greyson and Bob Nordic!
"Good evening, this is your 7 o'clock report, I'm Gale Greyson and this is Bob Nordic with your evening news, the coverage you can count on. For those just tuning in, more developments are on the way for a Robbery turned kidnapping. Early morning, just two mere days ago, three armed men broke into the local Savings bank in downtown Flagstaff. We have obtained video evidence and urge anyone with information to come forward."
The screen turned to the footage of the robbery unfolding. Eddy can be seen attacking one of the robbers, no sound was fed from the footage, so it was as though each frame was highlighted to paint a very vivid picture.
Niall swallowed nervously, beads of sweat forming on his brow as he gaged his boss's reaction carefully. Unfortunately, his face remained unreadable. Looking at the video himself, he watched Eddy and the way he effortlessly managed to get the upper hand. He was calculated and it made Niall, as well as his team, look unprepared, if not outright incompetent.
"Mia Porter and Eddy Price. If anyone has information on the two hostages, call the number at the bottom of the screen, help bring them home safe and their abductors to justi –"
The TV shut off abruptly, their boss practically throwing the remote. A tense silence filled the air, the man in charge standing abruptly, swinging the back of his hand against Niall's cheek, making the younger man yelp in surprise.
