A/N: Enjoy the long chapter :)

When Mia had first awakened, everything from the past few hours was momentarily forgotten. This left her confused, struggling to put the pieces back in order again. Puzzlement slowly started etching across her face; why was she laying on the ground of the barn? The last thing she remembered was running. This also posed another complicated question, why was her body shaking so violently, and what was with the headache? Mia felt as though someone was kicking her brain around her skull. However, it wasn't long before the memories rematerialize; making the girl feel as though she was being hit with a cold bucket of ice water.

Her vision swam as she managed to sit up from the hard ground, immediately aware of the locked manacles around her wrists, a chain looped through and secured tightly to the wooden beam. She panicked, calling out for Eddy, moving as far as the chain would allow, only to discover that the place where Eddy used to be, was empty. Her eyes struggled to make a connection to a clue; unfortunately, the only thing she saw, was cut rope next to the area he once sat. Realizing he was gone, brought an indescribable amount of fear, making her curl up in on herself with silent tears cascading down her cheeks.

Mia didn't know how long she sat there, but it felt like forever. Her clothes were still damp, adhering tightly to her skin. It was enough to notice a stiff pull in her fabric and an increased sensation of freezing. Leaning her head back against the pillar weakly, she became aware that her hair pressed stiffly against her, making her follicles feel like an icicle. Soon enough, a new sensation hit. Coughs began to violently expel passed her lips, leaving her gagging on trapped air.

Now that she felt ten times worse, she curled inward more, to attempt to shield herself, especially if it helped to regain some heat that was lost to the river. Leaning against the beam with her head resting against it, there was nothing she could do but wait. For what? Mia didn't know. The headache was still going strong, leaving her feeling almost unaware of anything happening around her other than the pain. She knew she was getting sick, but there was nothing to be done, other than pray that something or someone would bring relief.

Almost as though the universe heard her plea; the sudden sound of barn doors briskly opening had her opening her eyelids, a bit sluggishly. Glancing through her unruly hair that had fallen in her face, she could only begin to guess the visitor. The light from outside cast over her, momentarily blinding her sight, before a silhouette replaced the harsh brightness.

Drawing her eyelids closed again, she kept them latched; listening to the figure approach. Everything fell silent, save for their footsteps. When those stopped, another hard hush spread, screaming shrilly in the quiet. Its presence lingered a few minutes until gathering the courage to lift her head up and turning her head. Her beautiful soul windows unfurled, making direct eye contact with Niall.

He stood just a little way in front of her, arms crossed over his chest. He looked down at her with mere curiosity, his blondish brow arching upward, his lips settled calmly in a frown. His blonde hair was pushed back away from his face, falling out in loose waves. He appeared to be assessing potential damage, speaking up once he was satisfied, she had not tampered with her restraints and was no longer on the brink of death.

"A famous killer once said; and this has remained my favorite quote since forever – " Niall began tonelessly, a slight smirk slowly filling his lower jaw. He moved a few steps forward, crouching down on his knees in front of Mia. "Never trust a chained captive. Now I know why." He nodded to himself, seeming to have an epiphany. Although, the smirk left, replaced by indifference. "That escape you pulled was fruitless, and I hope you know that. I am your captor. You can't and won't get away; not if I don't wish you to." His voice increased, filling the barn.
