Jack opened the front door of the house and let Elsa in first before finally he caught up behind her, and then locked the door and walked straight into the living room. He threw his slippers straight from his feet into the corner of the room, ignoring Elsa who looked at him like a mother who sees her 2-year-old son spilling oil all over the kitchen floor. She wanted to be angry but it was useless, there was nothing she could do but to settle it later.
"What was wrong with you? Why didn't you like their romantic story. That was so romantic, Jack." Said Elsa, throwing herself in the middle of the couch in the living room.
Jack scoffed and rolled his eyes, he picked up the jar of almonds on the kitchen island and opened the lid. "Romantic you say?" He turned and looked at Elsa, moving the lid as he walked closer to Elsa in the living room.
"Which part of proposing on the mountain that you call romantic? Bitten by mosquitoes, beetles, and insects? That's itchy, Elsa. Not to mention the rashes? Uh, no. You've never even been to your parents' backyard, you hate mosquitoes." He took a handful of almonds and threw them into his mouth.
Elsa knew what her husband said was true, she really hates mosquitoes. But she still didn't want to lose yet.
"Oh, yeah? Now, tell me, Jack. Do you think the way you proposed to me was romantic?" Elsa folded her arms in front of her chest and raised her one perfectly shaped eyebrow.
"Of course it was!" Cried Jack confidently. He hugged the jar between his chest and his left arm, then stuck his right hand into the jar. But then his eyebrows scrunched up. "Wait. Where did I propose to you?"
Elsa grumbled and dropped her arms to her sides. "McDonald. You proposed to me at McDonald, Jack." A paused. "At that time, because I had never eaten fast food because my mom forbade me to eat such a food, you said, 'Elsa, I want to take you to dinner at McDonald's. My treat.' And then I thought, okay, because you're handsome, right? And when I was eating the burger, guess what, it had a ring in it. Between the lettuce and the tomato." She looked at jack as if to say, 'do you remember now?'.
Hearing Elsa's explanation, Jack smiled sweetly and wiggled his eyebrows. "It was romantic, wasn't it?" He took out his hand full of almonds and threw them into his mouth. He chewed while maintaining his wide grin.
"Yes, it was romantic." Said Elsa with a hint of sarcasm. "If only the ring had not written 'Nicholas St. North, Pennsylvania 1975'." She continued. She used her index finger as if she was writing in the air for the last sentence.
Jack's face turned sour. He placed the almond jar on the coffee table and shoved both hands into his pockets. "Oh, not again, Elsa. You're bringing up that topic again. You already knew that the ring was a gift from my uncle. Uncle North." But then his face turned sad. "At that time you knew I had no money.
Elsa sighed. "Okay, I knew that. And I'm sure that you remember, when I put on the ring that came from that burger, everyone laughed at us. But, do you still remember, what did you say after that?"
Jack frowned and pursed his lips in thought. His fingers scratched his chin in an attempt to concentrate. "Ah! I remember, Elsa! I remember!" He clapped his both hands and beamed at Elsa.
"I said, 'Elsa, if one day I have money, I'll buy you a nice diamond ring to replace Uncle North's ring'." Jack said grinning widely. "Am I right? Of course I'm right!" He started to laugh at Elsa, he was proud that he still remembered what he said that time.
But Elsa was not impressed and pressed her lips into a thin line. She then raised both of her hands in front of her face, spread her fingers, flipped her palms over and over again and then wiggled her ringless fingers.
