ESTELLA WENT TO the common room when she ran into Lily. Lily hadn't said anything about her birthday either or had seen her all day.
"Lily!" Estella stepped back. "How are you? Have you gotten my letters?"
"Yes, sorry," Lily apologized. "I haven't seen you all summer, what've you been up to?"
"Well— er.. I kindasortofmayberanawaytoJames', andnowIlivewithJamesPotterandhisparents." Estella rushed through her words.
Lily blinked, looking between Estella's eyes, not understanding a word she had just said. "I'm sorry, what?"
"I— Well, you know my parents.."
"Essie.. what did you do?" Lily questioned nervously.
"You know that boy.." Estella muttered slowly. "The one you definitely don't like, he's kinda annoying. He's got curly hair and blue eyes, and has a best friend named Sirius..?"
"..You mean.. Potter..?" Lily squinted her eyes in suspicion, eager for Estella to continue. "What about him?"
"So.." Estella started. "I kinda.. ran away from home and now I'm living at James' house with Sirius! Wow, shocker right?" Well, that's one way to put it.
Lily's eyes looked like they were about to pop out of her head in shock, dropping the box she had in her hands.
"What..?" Lily gaped. Just before she could say anything else, loud talking came from behind the common room doors, ready to open before Lily peeked her head outside and stopped whoever was coming inside.
"No! Out!" Lily whisper yelled, the only words Estella could understand. "Not yet!"
Lily stopped fighting the person on the other side before she turned back to Estella slowly, placing a smile on her face. "You were saying?"
"Uh, that's pretty much it." Estella shrugged.
"Okay.." Lily inhaled. "I can't deal with this right now. Marlene, Alice, and us are going to have a girl talk later to catch up. See you later..?"
"Oh, um— hey!" Estella grinned. "Are you busy today?"
"Um.. yeah. Why do you ask?" Lily questioned in suspicion. Nothing much, just that it's your best friends birthday and you forgot.
'She didn't remember..' was all Estella could think. "You have plans?"
"I have.. uh, a date!" Lily face turned to one of surprise. "Yeah, a date. Tonight. That's why I'll be getting dressed now.. I have to go, bye!"
