“Elliot!” I ran after him laughing.
“You’re so slow!” he ran in front of me laughing.
“No I’m not,” I started running faster till I could almost reach him.
Elliot suddenly stopped in his tracks and held my beanie high up in the air. I jumped a few times trying to reach for it, but since Elliot was so tall and I was short I couldn’t reach. I looked up at him crossing my hands over my chest,
“Elliot give me my beanie,” I said.
“You can have it if you can reach it,” he said grinning.
Instead of trying to jump and catch it I just stood there in front of him trying to stare him down. All he did in response was laugh at me. After a few minutes I gave up and poked his stomach causing him to move and lower his hand a bit. I took my chance and jumped on him tugging on the beanie away from him.
“That’s no fair!” he complained.
“What’s not fair,” I said back with an innocent smile.
“You poked me,” he argued while pouting his lips and crossing his arms, I smiled at his childish actions.
“Well you took my beanie,” I argued back sticking out my tongue at him.
Before he could reply the bell rang signaling us to hurry up and go to our class. After the bell rang Elliot and I exchanged side glances. We smiled when we both knew we were thinking the same thing. At the count of three we both sprinted to our lockers racing each other. I groaned when Elliot reached the lockers before me, all he did was smirk back at me and open his locker. After we both got our stuff ready we walked to our class pushing each other jokingly. As usual he held the door opened for me till we were both inside.
We sat together on the same table as usual, but in seats parallel to each other since according to the teacher we don’t focus next to each other. I smiled when he sat down and looked over to me.
“Everyone get their textbooks out,” the teacher called out loudly. I opened my textbook in front of me and allowed myself to zone out. Every once a while I would look in front of me at Elliot, mainly because he kept kicking my foot. I blushed when I looked up and saw him look at me, but he would look away when I notice him staring. Class went on and on I found myself half-asleep my head resting on the textbook as I looked up tiredly at the teacher. My eyes slowly began to flutter as I yawned. But, then I felt a sharp kick to my ankle causing my to open my eyes wide from the suddenness. I looked at Elliot as he mouthed the words ‘Don’t Sleep’ I groaned and glared at him. I sat up in my chair looking around the classroom, everyone was either half asleep or already asleep.
I looked back in front of me and saw one of my best friend Emily smirking at me as she eyed the both of us wiggling her eyebrows. I shook my head discreetly and blushed hoping Elliot wouldn’t notice Emily. But, of course Elliot being wide awake he looked over a Emily and turned back around when he saw her expression. He then looked at me,
“Leila Do you like me?” he asked looking at me with a small smirk.
“No,” I replied softly regretting the small stutter that tangled my words.
‘Do I like Elliot?’ I thought to myself.
I blushed when I didn’t have an answer. I don’t like Elliot. Yes you do. No I don’t. Yes you do. I looked up at him, okay maybe a little. I like Elliot, but just a little.
NEXT WEEK COMES….
I don’t know what’s going on, but Elliot’s friends are all gathered around Elliot. Some girls are crying, and some girls are smiling. But, Elliot he was upset I can tell from the small frown he made when he thought no one was looking. I looked over at the people taking and taking pictures with him. I just walked away and sat down at the other side of the room.
At the end of the day as I walk out my class alone, I see Elliot with his fiends again. This time everyone is saying goodbye and I just stare at them confused. Why goodbye? Goodbye to who? As I go back to my locker I see Elliot with his family walking out the school gate with Elliot frowning behind them. I realize he just left school and I didn’t say goodbye, I ran to him but before I could reach him the guards stopped me from passing the school gate. I apologized and walked back to my class.
Elliot just left. He left me. He didn’t even say goodbye.
I felt my eyes begin to burn with tears as I realized he didn’t say goodbye, because he didn’t care. He doesn’t consider as one of his friends. He never did.
