I looked up at him speechless. He wasn't supposed to see me. He wasn't supposed to know i was still in this school. He hurt me and I don't want him to do that again.
" uh..no..I'm not Leila," I stuttered trying to lie as smoothly as I can. Even though I have been told that I'm not the best at lying.
"Hey Leila!" a voice called out to me.
"Damn it Mitch," I cursed under my breath.
I looked up at Elliot and met his eyes. The same eyes that I missed so much, but also the same eyes that belonged to the person that hurt me.
"I have to go," I mumbled quickly running out of the cafeteria.
I ran as fast as I can to my locker. By the time I reached my locker I was breathing heavenly. I was about to lose it. I could've made a clean getaway with lying just this one time. But no of course Mitch has to come and ruin that for me. He is so dead. I pulled out my phone while hiding from any teachers nearby. I pulled up my friends contact and I messaged her telling her to meet me in the bathroom right now. I put my phone away and I ran to the bathroom making sure Elliot wasn't near.
"What happened," Chloe yelled out as soon as she walked into the bathroom and saw my legs from underneath the stall.
I sniffed and wiped my tears away while opening the stall, only to be faced by Chloe.
" You look like hell ran over you with a school bus," she said bluntly while looking over me.
" Aw thanks clo," I mumbled sarcastically while keeping my head down.
"Are you gonna tell me what happened or not?"
"Not," I looked away from her.
" Leila I swear you tell me right now or I will scream," my eyes widened at her threat. Last time she did that we both got in trouble for supposedly interrupting the near by classes.
"Don't you dare," I gave her a threatening look.
"You should know by now that I would," she took a deep breath preparing to scream.
"No fine I'll tell you," I whispered loudly covering her mouth with my hand.
She nodded for me to continue.
"Elliot and I know each other and.." I was interrupted by Chloe yelling out.
"What! You two knew each other and you didn't tell me. You could've told me. Are you two friends or did you two just know each other as classmates."
"We used to be really close friends but then he left suddenly," I said sadly remembering that day.
"Oh," she started but I cut her off by saying, "And I didn't get to say goodbye."
She frowned nodding understandably. Wes skipped our next class and stayed in the bathroom talking everything out. Which to be honest did make me feel better. After the 45 minutes of class time passed I hugged Chloe and ran over to my next and final class of the day. Gym.
I started running towards to the girls changing rooms knowing if I'm late the coach is going to make me run laps and do push ups like last time. 'Such a horrible punishment.' I cringed at my thought. I quickly entered the changing rooms and grabbed my gum bag. I pulled out my gym clothes which was blue shorts and a stiff grey shirt. I blocked out the sounds of the other girls singing to girly Disney songs while tying my hair up in my usual ponytail.
"Girls! Get changing hurry up who ever is not in the gym by the time I get there is running a mile!" the coach yells from her office.
All the girls groan in response and I basically run out of the room in my socks, grabbing my shoes on the way. After I successfully was in the gym room I took my time in putting on my shoes.
"Rachel! Mile now!" the coach yelled as she walked into the gym.
"But coach!" Rachel yelled back walking in after her.
'Ooof bad move.' I thought feeling sorry for her.
"A mile and 20 push ups now." the coach yelled making Rachel groan and start running.
Everyone realizing that coach wasn't in the best mood today we all silently agreed to be good. As usual we all started doing our stretches pairing off into partners. I heard laughter from across the room and saw it was the guys. I glared at them trying to tell them to quiet but they just laughed more,so I stayed silent and zoned out after pointing the middle finger at them.
I was brought back to reality when I hear the coach's whistle. I got up and ran standing with the crowd.
" Okay students since y'all we're quiet we can do something simple, everyone grab a partner and a Frisbee," the coach announced.
I smiled thankful it wasn't laps or fitness training, she's usually meaner when she's like this. Maybe she isn't as rough everyone thought. As I walked to get my Frisbee the coach yelled out another announcement sarcastically,
" Oh and this time I chose your parents they're mixed genders. Have fun,"
Everyone groaned losing their smiles. They all rushed to the bulletin to see who they're paired with. I walked slowly towards it not wanting to fight through the crowd. By the time I reached everyone was gone. I scrolled through the names and stopped at mine reading out the one name I didn't expect. I heard doors slam close behind me and a figure shadow above me reading the lists.
" Hey partner," I heard.
I turned around face to face with the one and only,Elliot.
"Oh Leila glad you found Elliot did you know he came back?" the coach questioned as she stopped next to us.
"He found me this morning," I mumble quietly aware of Elliot's gaze on me.
"Well I still remember y'all were close so I thought it would be nice for you to catch up. You're welcome now hurry up and start." she smiled at us walking away.
'Never mind she's worse than I thought.' I thought.
I turned walking away from Elliot only to be stopped by him grabbing my arm gently. I flinched a bit but he kept his soft grip on me sliding his hand down to meet mine.
"I already have a Frisbee lets go outside." Elliot said holding up his Frisbee pulling my hand opening the door for me.
I pulled my hand away from him roughly walking outside the doors in front of him.
This is going to be such a long class.
