I just wanted to give a Shout Out to RinaRSV who put this wonderful description together. She's talented and you should give her books a try.

Many centuries ago...

There was a tribe that used to worship the sun, the moon, the spirits, and a nightmare demon named Epiales. Iktomi was their leader, a shaman, a guide, and one who supposedly spoke to demons. He could morph into a spider among other things. He was famous for the elixirs he used to make. One of those elixirs tricked the nightmare demon into working under him like a puppet on strings, but as all potions, its effect didn't last long. Epiales was pissed.

Iktomi decided it was best to trap him and with that, Epiales stayed trapped in Asibikaashi's dream realm, behind golden gates that were guarded by the Cerberus.

But Epiales were too powerful to be kept locked. A part of him slipped through the gate, haunting people in their dreams, using her and the people's fear to fuel his power.

Asibikaashi Adrastos reached out to Iktomi out of concern that Epiales may break free. Iktomi also feared his return, so he taught her how to make dream catchers, showing her how to enchant it so it keeps nightmares at bay and only let good dreams pass.

Centuries went by, and generations of Adrastos went. The legend and tradition were passed down generation after generation with the dreamcatcher following them, but then in the year 1980, there was a war in Vietnam. A cover-up for a secret operation that Iktomi lead, annihilating everyone who had the Adrastos bloodline. The army combed out through households and Forests. They spread out through the entire country, killing indiscriminately. This caused people to panic, and many were murdered. Only a handful managed to escape while the enchanted dream catchers were destroyed. No one, not even the Adrastos family knew what was going on as they just escape from war.

Soon the legend of Epiales' curse was lost and forgotten. And what was left was believed to be a myth. The Adrastos family thought they escape the worse until Epiales visited their kid one night. A blood huddling scream was heard. The child passed away. The circumstances unknown.

No one could survive his curse.
