"beck beck beck"
"cat cat cat" beck responded looking at the sweet redhead in front of him. she looked as though she had extra bounce in her step today. he smiled at her sweetly, he could never use her for some stupid bet jade came up with, but there was someone he could use.
"do you know a ryn?" cat asked her brows furrowing.
"yes i do i tried to ask her out the other day" he sighed decided not to give cat too much information on how he was making ryn trick jade. the poor girl could never keep a secret, especially from jade who scared the living shit out of her most of the time.
"i don't like her" cat answered scrunching her nose and when beck tried to respond she giggled walking away and waving bye.
"cat- i wasn't do- ok then bye." he stammered laughing to himself as she skipped away. he sighed, shutting his locker and walking to class. he entered his first period class and walked in to see jade across the room trying very hard not to look annoyed as ryn babbled on to her.
she kept smiling intermittently and nodding and ryn. beck smiled, he knew this was killing her. the reason he had used ryn because he knew her personality would drive jade insane, but jade needed to get a girlfriend quickly. beck tried to conceal a laugh as he remembered the last time she lost a bet. the time they swore they would never talk about again.
(flashback to about two years ago)
"you just have to try jade! you almost ran a girl out of the school yesterday!" beck reminded her as she sulked.
"she deserved that" she replied crossing her arms, clearly not caring if beck wanted her to be nicer or not. beck sighed, it was near impossible to get through to jade sometimes. but he knew how to get her interested.
"fine. don't do it. but i bet you can't be nice to everyone for a whole week" he side eyed her, watching her expression change.
"what do you mean? if i really wanted to, of course i could" she shot back furrowing her eyebrows.
"i really don't think you could jade" he laughed at her. and he was telling the truth. he honestly didn't think she was capable of that.
"fuck you fine. i'll be nice for a whole week but if i do it you have to help me convince everyone to get that vega girl out of the group" she proposed and beck thought about it for a second. there was no way she could do this.
"deal. but if i win you have to wear colorful clothes for a whole week." he raised an eyebrow at her as he heard her gasp softly. she never wore colorful clothes.
"and i get to pick them" he added on and she rolled her eyes.
"deal."
the week went on and jade couldn't contain herself when toris old boyfriend came back. she sweared under her breath as beck made accusing eyes at her. once they were home for the day she groaned.
"you insulted tori! i heard it. i win" he demanded and she threw herself onto his bed.
"beck noooooo" she whined her face into her pillow.
"sorry, that was the deal." he snickered as tried to prepare herself for the day to come.
the next morning she had a plan. she woke up hours earlier than usual, getting dressed into her usual dark clothes and sneaking out the door so beck wouldn't hear or see her. after all, he couldn't make her change if she wasn't there. and it's not like he was going to make an effort with her.
she was wrong.
he showed up to school at his regular time, giving her a sweet smile as he walked to her locker.
"hi jade" he smiled and she immediately knew something was wrong.
"hi?" she replied tentatively.
"so i noticed that for some reason, i guess we'll never know, you left early this morning. but don't worry i have your outfit for the day picked out right here and ready to go!" he beamed as she rolled her eyes.
"but- but beck..!" she protested as he swung a colorful looking dress in front of her. she groaned finally, letting him drag her into the bathrooms. she walked in behind him, not noticing that she had followed him into the boys bathroom carelessly.
in impulsive anger she decided to just change right there outside the stalls. she didn't care enough to go inside one and she was yelling at him and doing something at the same time so she couldn't just walk away.
"and you said i had to do this for a week but i didn't think-" she ranted random words just angry she had to do this. she pulled her shirt off over her head getting ready to put on the awful dress he had brought. stopping with the dress in her hand, waving it around because she often talked with her hands when she was mad.
"and even though i lost-"
"jade-"
"oh shut up-"
"jade!"
"beck shut up i'm talking!"
"JADE!" he yelled once again pointing behind her. not only had robbie walked out of one of the stalls but andre was standing in the doorway of the other. beck bit his lip to stop smiling but jade couldn't move for a second.
"jade?! this is the boys bathroom!" robbie reminded her. she threw the stupid rainbow dress over her head.
"ya no shit robbie!" she yelled as she stormed out, leaving beck andre and robbie to laugh at her.
he laughed as the teacher started the class. watching jade. the way she pushed her hair behind her ear every so often. the way she glanced softly to the board every few seconds. the way her eyes flew across her notebook and her hand glided across the page as she took her notes. he knew she was writing messily. he could see it in the way she moved her hand. she couldn't care less how these notes looked. but when she wanted to she could make her handwriting neat. she called it control, others called it lazy.
and he felt something he hadn't felt in a long time. he watched her whisper to ryn and then smile.
and he felt his heart long for her.
