A reader mentioned in a comment on FOL that what if they started creating their own plotlines for the characters, and it got me thinking.

I've often thought about alternate plotlines, and well, this chapter is the result of all the 'what if' questions that I've asked myself.

It's just light-hearted, and I'll try to make it funny, but let me know of any alternate realities of the FOL universe that you have considered.

In this reality:

~Jasmina didn't go to London to study.

~ The couples are definitely different.

Be warned! Some of you may hate the new couples!!!

Jasmina

After a long day of education, you just want to come home and relax.

But no. Not in a desi household. And not when there's a wedding around the corner.

Dr Arhaan Sheikh weds the new doctor, Dr Fariha Ali.

Our two families, who share a decades-long friendship, were going to be tied in the bond of family now.

"Jasmina!" Ammi practically pounced on me as I walked through the door.

"What?!" I was startled by her sudden attack.

"Go and get freshened up and quickly get something to eat. We're going shopping." She told me.

Normally, the thought of shopping would excite me, but as I mentioned, I just came back from university, and I just wanted to eat and sleep. "Ammi, I'm tired."

"Zafar's family will be attending all the events. You need to look your best." She said.

"Rishta pakka to ho gaya hai, Ammi. Ab kya acha lagna?" I rolled my eyes.

*"Our marriage is already fixed, Mum. Why bother looking good now?"

Don't get me wrong. I think it's all crap that a girl has to look good to be selected for a good suitor. But our culture is still stuck somewhere between 1800 and 1900s, in my personal opinion.

"Zafar's Taya and Tayi will be coming as well." Ammi explained. "They want to introduce you to them."

*Taya: Dad's older brother.
Tayi: His wife.

"Can Ahad Bhai not be my rep, and say good things about me, being Zafar's best friend and all." I still winced when I said his name, because it was almost automatically followed by the word 'Bhai'.

"Jasmina." Ammi gave me a pointed look.

"Fine. We'll leave in an hour. The shops are properly open in the evening anyway." With a sigh, I trudged up the stairs.
