"Getting some fresh air?" You asked as you approached the short second year. Nishinoya glanced up and quickly looked away, his cheeks turning slightly red in the process. He was still pretty embarrassed at his mistake earlier.
"S-sorry about before," he muttered. "I didn't mean to offend you."
"I'll forgive you if you join the team," you grinned up at him, not a trace of offence anywhere on you. "We can't function without a libero, you know?"
Nishinoya frowned. "Why do you think I'm a libero?" He asked as he sat down on a bench next to a nearby tree. "Because I'm short?"
You rolled your eyes. "You can't tell me you haven't noticed I'm even shorter than you," you snarked, causing him to glance back up at you. "I called you a libero because I saw your receive earlier. Straight back to the setter position; it was pretty impressive. You'd make a damn good backbone of our defense."
"Look at you," Noya smirked. "You really know your stuff, huh?"
"I'm not as dense as I look," you chuckled and sat down next to him. "You know, Daichi-senpai was telling me all about our Guardian. I was super excited to meet you. I'd be pretty bummed if you decided to leave so soon."
"Guardian? Where'd that come from?" He immediately started blushing. "I-it's not like I'm that big of a deal! It's kinda embarrassing, actually! ...He really said that?"
Ok, (Y/N), time to fan the ego a little bit.
"Uh-huh! And from what I've seen, you totally deserve that nickname! That receive of yours was awesome!" You gushed, leaning forward a bit with your eyes wide and shining.
"Does he think giving me a badass nickname is enough to come back?" Noya scoffed. "I mean, he's not wrong, but... Damn it, Daichi! That's not fair!"
"Actually, I was about to work on my receives when you showed up. They're still a bit shaky, but they're improving bit by bit," you scratched the back of your neck, blushing a bit in embarrassment. "I was really hoping you might be able to teach me, senpai!"
Noya gasped and immediately flipped out at what you'd called him. Wow, he was exactly like Tanaka -- calling him senpai was totally his Achilles's heel.
"Look," Noya placed a heavy hand on your shoulder, his face as serious as he could make it. "After practice, I'm gonna treat you to some ice cream." You lifted a brow, doing your best not to start laughing. "I'm your upperclassman, and that's what upperclassmen do!" He shouted boisterously.
"You really mean it?!" You gasped. You weren't exactly all that excited for just a little ice cream, but if this is what it took to get the libero to stay on the team, then there was no doubt you'd be going along with it.
"That doesn't mean I'm gonna come back to volleyball club," Noya cut off your enthusiasm. "I'm just gonna teach you how to do receives, that's all!"
That's fine -- you could work with that. And besides, no one ever said you didn't like a challenge. This just meant you'd have to work a little harder to get him to come back. "Thank you so much, senpai!" You grinned, causing Noya to immediately start blushing again. How the hell were you so adorable? It should be against the laws of nature for anyone to make his heart beat as fast as Kiyoko did, let alone another guy!
---
"Noya-senpai! This is Hinata and Tsukishima! Would you mind teaching them, too?" You asked, dragging your fellow first years over with you.
"Yes, please!" Hinata bobbed his head up and down as Tsukki just frowned, barely allowing himself to be dragged by you, all the while telling himself that it was just so he could learn his receives. It's not like he thought of you as a friend or anything.
