16. My Real Lover

"Rats! Run!"

Lianzhi doesn't need to yell twice. Everyone starts to run for their life. Hundreds of mutant rats as big as dogs are chasing them. They could only keep running.

Eerie groanings.

Zombies have fallen down into the sewer. Some rats are attacking them right now. Mutant animals seem to have strong resistance to the zombie virus.

"I, I can't run no more..."

"Fatty! You wanna get eaten alive?" roars Yunxi.

A rat nearly bites his leg. Fatty kicks it away and he dashes again for his life. He curses himself for being overweight.

They kept on running.

Yunxi blasts the rats in certain intervals to prevent them getting caught. Her face is ghastly pale. She is running out of juice.

Finally only a little spark emits from her fingertips.

She collapses on the ground. Unable to move much further.

"Big Sis!"

The three of them gather around her.

"Go ahead without me. I, I can't..."

"No way! Let me carry you!"

Fatty Qiu has lifted poor Yunxi on hid back. He starts to dash with her as his burden.

Xiao Yu and Lianzhi guard the rear, killing rats during their escape.

The big sign on the sewer wall really caught his eyes. Xiao Yu stops running. His head hurts a lot. Images are flashing in his mind.

Lianzhi hits his head hard.

"Don't stop running!" scolds him.

"Yes!"

Finally there is a sewer that leads upward. A steel wiremesh is blocking the exit. Lianzhi uses his axe and manages to cut it open.

Yunxi crawls first through the narrow gap. Fatty Qiu is next.

He is stuck!

"Help me! Push me!" pleads him.

Xiao Yu tries to push him with all his might. It wouldn't budge. Lianzhi is busy cutting down rats.

Eerie zombie moanings could be heard nearby.

The zombies are coming.

No use! He is stuck! If only the hole could be bigger...

A miracle suddenly happens. The wiremesh moves a little. Fatty Qiu immediately crawls away after he is free.

Xiao Yu scratches his head. He still unable to process the whole thing.

Lianzhi pushes him from behind.

"What are you waiting for? Crawl!"

Xiao Yu finally crawls through the wiremesh.

They keep on crawling until the sewer height is tall enough for them.

Fatty Qiu opens the thick steel manhole easily. It's quite heavy. Usually two adult men would be needed to lift it.

Up above ground, Zombies are attracted by their smell. They begin to circle them from all directions.

Yunxi is still too weak to run. Fatty Qiu carries her again. Lianzhi serves as vanguard and carves an opening for them. Xiao Yu guards the rear.
