Chapter 18 Loving The Rescue Mission Around Here... What's Your Batting Average Anyway Part 2

Previously...

"Okay that was Owen. He's managed to drive around back. Let's head out before anyone notices." Sam adds hurriedly before nodding toward the door. Kade moves forward with no hesitation and Sam joins him gently guiding me with him. I'm nearly jolted from my spot at the shock that fills my body. Sam had taken care of me. He went up against the pap to get me out of here.

Mom wouldn't have done anything close to that.

"Parker are you alright?" Sam asks just as he opens the back door of the gas station. We make it just out of the door frame before I spy a jeep waiting a couple yards away. Owen's sitting shotgun.

I go to answer Sam relieved at seeing Owen's face but before I can, I see a bright flash toward my right and the sound of a camera shutter.

Fuck.

"Parker are you still using cocain?" A deep male voice asks.

I try to blink away the blinding flashes that come from all different directions but it's hard.

"Parker are you returning back to rehab now that you've left the concert?" Another shouts at me.

I remain silent trying to find Sam and Kade. We were so close to the jeep.

So close.

Before I open my mouth to call for Sam in the sea of flashes and I feel a rough but warm hand grab mine. I look to my left to scream at the guy to let me go but then I hear his voice.

"Parker, It's me." Sam speaks slowly allowing my panic to settle to the bottom of my stomach knowing it was his hand holding gently onto mine.

I feel him guide me away from the flashes in a hurry and my eyes soon adjust to the giant fluorescent light towering over us in the back of the gas station. I see his face and instead of the worry lines from a few minutes ago he just looks infuriated.

I try not to let a wave of guilt wash over me at how his night off was going because of who I was. Because of the choices I had made.

It doesn't work though because guilt seemed to shadow over me every night since the 'incident'.

I quicken my pace to catch up with him as my eyes move a couple feet ahead of us and find Kade and Owen waiting for us in the jeep.

"You're gonna have to hop in okay?" Sam calls out to me a little louder. His eyes catch mine and he nods his head once toward the back of the open jeep. We were gonna have to jump over the back of the jeep and spare tire and land in the back seats.

I really didn't like the pap. Like seriously.

I nod once toward Sam as we pick up our speed heading toward the Jeep, praying that I got enough momentum to clear the top of the tire.

My sneakers slap the concrete beneath me and Sam only tightens his hold on my hand pulling me up next to him. And then I reach my other hand out just in time to push my hand against the back of the jeep propelling me over and into the seat.

I try and settle on to seat and slide my legs beneath me and glance over at Sam.

He was panting just as fast as me but he has a little smirk as he catches my look before he reaches his other hand to the seat in front of him knocking it a couple times.

"Step on it Owen."

But before Owen could get us out of this hell hole I felt a tug on my jacket sleeve near my right and then I heard the guys from before shouting my name.
