Loving Those Big Books She Carries... Hey You Bench Books Sammy
The local library was only fifteen minutes from our home and that was being generous. The ride there I spent watching the scenery pass me by as I sat closest to the window since I forced Owen to sit in the middle this time.
I tried to hide my grin as his large frame remained squished in the middle for the first five minutes of the ride but after that I gave up rather quickly.
The town's neighborhood was stunning with vibrant green trees, bright vivd colored flowers, and hanging wind chimes through the residential area. The charm of this town only grew when we arrived in the town's square where little flags were hung above shop doors near the bells and welcome mats adorned nearly every door.
Toward the other side of town about a mile from the town's gazebo sat the public library. It was a beautiful two story building with modern architecture that allowed the many floor to ceiling glass windows an abundance of light.
There was a small garden to the side of library with plenty of rose bushes filled the space with their lushes red and pink petals.
It was quite and calm even as soon as we entered the parking lot. There was a cute little silver Prius sitting in the front lot near the entrance where the staff parking was dedicated and Sam ended up parking just beyond that.
"I think I'm gonna love it here." I whisper as Sam turns the ignition to his truck off. I feel Owen gently tap me on the shoulder and I reach for the door handle hopping out.
"You and Sam both." Owen stage whispers and I know it reaches Sam because he sends an annoyed glare over his way.
I can hear that Owen is hinting at something but I can't tell what that is. I just know that Sam avoids my eyes as Owen swings his arm around my shoulders steering me to the library door.
"Sam do you love going to the library too?" I ask trying to understand my usually quiet older brother. It was unlike him really.
"Yes." Sam grunted out quietly keeping his eyes trained on the library entrance as he beeped his key fob effectively locking up his truck. He made his way around the front of his truck meeting us halfway before we all headed for the wooden doors of the public library.
I glanced at Owen who didn't seem bothered at all by Sam's shift in mood if anything I would bet he was amused if not relishing in Sam's low disposition.
I wanted to scold Owen for putting Sam in such a weird mood but I had no idea what I could say in the moment.
So instead I moved to Sam's side keeping steady with his brisk pace to the doors and before I could second guess myself I bump my shoulder with his and he glances down at me suspiciously.
"Don't listen to him. He's acting like a dumbass." I reply lowly before I find myself smirking as I catch my big brother's lip twitch at my assessment of his best friend.
He gives me a knowing look and I know we'll gang up on Owen at a later time.
I reach for the doors but Sam beats me to it and opens the closest one open for me and then he follows through before letting the door fall in Owen's face.
I suppress the giggle I know is so close to bursting from me and Sam wraps his arm around my shoulder and we glance around the modern library organized before us. A small entry way sits with a bulletin pinned to a wall with tons of posters stuck to it and a complete mural on the other side of the wall. The mural is one of vivd colors painting a picture of young children, and adults alike as they sit reading around the tree.
