Chapter 17 Loving The Refreshments... Can they get Cotton Candy and Onion Rings? Oh fuck.. Please don't flash me! Part 2

Nash opened for the Rejected Hearts. He had a performance of about five songs ranging from acoustic, pop, and piano.

He had garnered the entire venue's attention as we all quieted to listen to his honey voice as he sang love ballads that talked of loss, love, and pain. It was full of reflection and it echoed out in the audience touching all of us. He had easily captured our hearts with his gentle grin and warm eyes. He had this little grin every time he'd walk the stage singing the pop songs and he just looked like he belonged.

It was so incredibly amazing and Aspen and I gave each other a surprised look as his voice soared to new highs. I had even heard Kade and Dustin murmur a curse in surprise at Nash's talent.

We had seats closest to the stage so we stood together shoulder to shoulder watching on before the lights began to dim.

"And now ladies and gentleman I would first like to introduce my very best friend in the entire world, the lead singer of The Rejected Hearts, the best powerhouse vocalist I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, DEVON BLUE!" Nash hollered into the microphone before Blue stepped out onto stage in her band tee and ripped skinny jeans.

Her jeans and heels were chic but her old tattered t shirt was full on rock grunge and I loved her more for it. Blue tossed her bouncy blue curls over her shoulder exposing the tattoos on her neck that complimented the sleeve of tattoos on her right arm.

Her smile was warm and genuine and utterly charming. Which was completely in Blue fashion.

Lenny and Ashley gawked before letting out excited cheers bouncing on their toes.

"I can't believe they were at the diner just this afternoon." Kade comments shaking his head in disbelief.

"I know. It's so weird going from having lunch with them to this." Aspen called over a bit louder so we could hear over the noise.

This stadium was filled to the brink and the noise of screaming fans filled it in its entirety. The booming of voices reverberated through my chest and peoples jumping and stomping moved through the floor boards with a frenzied excitement.

Blue and Nash settle themselves on stools in the front of the stage for an acoustic song they'd be singing together. Nash grabs an acoustic guitar and turns to Blue.

"You remember this one?" Nash asks Blue with a soft smile on his face as he begins strumming a few chords. Blue's face floods with concentration and in the next five-seconds her eyes flash with recognition.

"I'd never forget it. It was the one you wrote in high school for Eli's class." She comments tossing her head back laughing as Nash nods in confirmation.

The audience oohs and aw's in adoration at their long friendship and its warming.

"Oh my gosh they are so cute." Aspen calls out over the noise of the crowd.

Dustin looks down at her adoringly before nodding his head in agreement as she meets his gaze.

Nash and Blue sing together and it sounds as smooth as butter and as filling as ever. Their voices blend together creating this melody that sounds like a familiar tune that follows you all the way home.

It hangs over your head and resonates in your heart and you know this song will forever mark a part of your life and when you look back it will fill you with the stark understanding of love and pain.

And all too soon does the song finish and Blue and Nash hug one another before giving one bow and both leaving the stage. The final few seconds were left with the image of Nash's arm wrapped around Blue's shoulder flicking his brow hair out of his eyes and pushing his glasses up as he looks down at her small frame with a warm glow of adoration.
