The look of recognition on both of their faces shocked you. They knew each other. Your wide eyes flitted from Touya to Shoto, trying desperately to understand the situation. They knew each other. Amai stood between them both, also glancing from Shoto to her father. After a few minutes she goes over to her dad and tugs at his shirt sleeve. He breaks his stare with Shoto and looks to her, his face instantly softening. "Hey, sweetpea, what's up?" He pulls her into his lap as she looks up at him, her wide blue eyes sparkling with curiosity. "How do you know Roki, Papa?" He takes a deep breath before tucking some stray hair behind her ear. "Well, funny story. Roki here is actually my little brother." You felt your jaw drop. Amai just squealed in excitement but you were both surprised and enraged. Touya must have known exactly who you were talking about. It all made sense to you now. How he knew about Endeavour being a bad guy, the flinch when you'd told him that Shoto was Endeavour's son. He'd known the whole time. You bit your tongue and did your best to keep your cool because you didn't want to blow your stack in front of Amai. You turned to Shoto and tried to hide the anger in your voice. "Now that you're here, why don't you stay. I'm sure that we three will have a lot to talk about." You shot Touya an angry glare. He actually looked scared as he went back to playing with Amai.
Time passed quickly and you put Amai to bed when she started yawning and getting snuggly. You tucked her in gently and kissed her head before leaving the room, closing the door. You went back through to the living room and saw the two men sat on the floor talking about some TV show they'd seen. It actually surprised and annoyed you that they could be so calm after what was just revealed. You breathed out a sigh and grabbed the empty pots to go clean them. They stopped their conversation as you stormed through to the kitchen to clean. You'd filled the sink with water when you stopped and held up a hand. "Don't, I don't wanna talk." You rolled your eyes at the soft chuckle you heard. "Are you really sure you're quirkless? You've always had a really weird awareness of people." You turned and glared at Touya, not saying a word as you turned back to the pots and started washing them. You flinched away from the hand that Shoto tried to lay on your shoulder. His eyes widened slightly before he dropped his hand and stepped back. "What's wrong? Are you mad?" You whirled on him then, finally unable to keep everything in. "Am I mad? Are you fucking kidding me, Shoto? Or course I'm mad! I just found out that the guy I like is the my daughter's father's brother!" You turned to Touya, jabbing your finger into his chest as his eyes widened. "And you! Why didn't you tell me when Amai mentioned him for gods sake! We could have avoided this whole awkward thing. And don't tell me that you didn't know because I know you did." You looked from Touya to Shoto. "And how can you be so okay with all of this? Chatting like everything's normal while I'm over here losing my fucking mind! Do you realise how much danger this puts Amai in!? That sweet precious little girl who's in there sleeping in her bed could have her whole life torn about if it became public knowledge that she was your daughter, Touya. The heroes would come for you, and I'd be taken away for being involved with a criminal. She'd have to sit back and watch as her parents were taken from her and she had all this attention on her because she's the secret daughter of a member of the League of Villains! She'd have that label for the rest of her life! And you just act like everything's fucking normal! I'm so sick of just going along with everything and acting lik-"
"Mamma?"
Your eyes widened as you turned to see Amai in the kitchen doorway, rubbing her eyes sleepily, her tiny child hands clutching her Endeavour doll. "Mamma what's wrong? Why are you shouting and crying? Are you okay?" You went over to her and crouched in front of her, wiping your eyes. "I'm okay, peach, I promise" You smiled softly as she raised her hand to your cheek to wipe a stray tear away before she hugged you tightly. You hugged her back, all of your anger fizzling away to leave you feeling empty and confused. "Shall me and you have snuggles in Mamma's bed tonight?" She nodded in agreement. You picked her up and held her close to you before turning to the two men in your kitchen. "See yourselves out, I've got nothing more to say to either of you." Shoto tried to protest as you turned and headed away. Touya put his arm out to stop Shoto from coming after you. "You'll make it worse, kid. If you want to keep your place in her heart, wait till she cools down and reaches out to you."
It was four days before you finally texted Shoto. You'd had a lot of time to think about what was best for Amai. She really liked him, possibly just as much as she liked her father, but you didn't know whether mixing that with romantic feelings was a good idea. Your heart couldn't handle it. No matter how much you tried to tell yourself you were okay, the very little time to yourself you got after your break from Touya meant that the pain you covered up had left an ugly wound in your heart. You didn't think you could handle anything as serious or long-term again, probably for the rest of your life. If you were being honest, you were scared. Even though you knew that ending things with Touya was what was best for all three of you, you never wanted to feel that amount of pain again. You texted him to meet you around the back of the café after he'd finished his patrol. You'd finished cleaning and had given Amai some colouring books to keep her occupied as you went out to the back to wait for Shoto. It wasn't long before he arrived. He came over and sat next to you on the wall that surrounded what was considered the Cafe's garden, although it was nothing but hard concrete. You both sat there in silence for a while before you let out a breath. "I need to stop this." You watched him in your periphery. He turned to you with a puzzled look on his face. You continued, not allowing him to ask questions because you were scared any resistance would cause your armour to crumble. "Ever since Amai was born, I've always said I'd never be romantically involved again. After things were over with Touya, I was broken. But I didn't let anyone see because I had to focus on the baby I was having. I didn't get much time away from him either because he kept asking for updates. He'd come and visit me to make sure I had everything I needed. But at that time I still loved him, and honestly, I'm not absolutely sure that I don't still love him a little bit. Hell, I was planning on spending the rest of my life with him. But those awful feelings of lost love never got to heal properly. I've had to carry that this entire time. I don't get a break from it, it's always there. But I know that Amai really likes you, and I don't want to ruin this for her. You're the only other person she's ever actually gotten to know because of who Touya is....so....I don't mind you coming to the café after closing still...but that's all it'll be. I can't get tangled up with you. My heart's not ready. I'm sorry." You sighed and stood up before heading inside to your daughter.
