It was late by the time me and Alice had finished talking and she sent me straight to bed, instructing me not to go any further with my research on my Dad until the next day. Begrudgingly I complied and had a very hard time falling asleep.
Bright and early the next day, I practically launched myself out of bed, to the dismay and annoyance of Duchess who was snoozing at the other end of the bed, and headed straight to my desk where my computer was and logged in as quickly as humanly possible. Going to google I'm about to type in the words 'Jeremy Jordan Corpus Christie' when something made me stop.
Aunt Alice warned me not to get my hopes up or do anything rash or impulsive without consulting her first, so instead of hitting enter on the search bar, I got up from my position at my desk and trudged off downstairs to make myself some breakfast and wait for everyone to wake up before starting the man hunt for the mysterious Jeremy.
The chest Aunt Alice brought into my room last night was still open and propped up against the wall, it's contents spilling out and onto the floor. Peering in, I see all the diaries stacked haphazardly on top of each other and decide, what the hell, lets see what we can dig up and proceeded to stack up the books and folders in my arms an take them downstairs with me.After making myself a bowl of Coco-Pops and pouring a glass of orange juice, I make myself comfortable at the dining room table and open up one of the notebooks.
This one was faded green and covered in doodles of stars and musical notes. I flip it open and land on the picture I had found from the night before. This was the notebook it had fallen out of. Having a closer look, I see on one of the pages is a faded outline, presumably where the photograph was and the words surrounding it:
Julia and Jeremy, Beach Bonfire Night!
Peninsula Cornwall, August 2002August 2002. That was 9 months before I was born. This must've been the night they...I gave a little shudder, nudging that thought out of my head and continue reading. Around the faded border where the photo once was, a bunch of hearts and smiley faces were doodles all over the page and despite everything, I found myself smiling. This picture and Mum's words...she seemed so happy here, so young and care free. She was just the same whenever she was with me, but even she couldn't hide the sad look from behind her eyes and the tears that stained her cheeks when she thought I wasn't looking.
Feeling a deep pang of sadness, I tried shaking it off and read through some more of her entries, trying to piece together their relationship bit by bit.
So far, I knew they met through email, through a programme that both their schools had put on where you picked a name at random and corresponded with them over the course of the school year and find out about a different part of the world, but their correspondence lasted way more than a few months. They facially met in person when Jeremy came over for Spring Break back in 2001 and stayed with Mum and her family for a few weeks, but noting romantic would happen between them until Mum wrote a letter to Jeremy telling her how she felt an he seemed to reciprocate those feeling for her and the soon started a long distanced relationship that lasted almost 2 years, up until Mum was made to write one more email that would cut off ties with Jeremy for good. A month after the beach bonfire.
Not a lot to go off, but it was a start at least.
Just as I'm closing the book and reaching for the folder titled 'Jamie's Old ArtWork' Susie walks through the kitchen door, mid yawn and making her way over to the fridge. "Morning!" I chirp, making her jump about 8 feet in the air.
"Jesus Jamie!" Her hand flew to her chest in mock relief. "Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!" She grumbled, rubbing the sleep from her eyes as she grabbed the carton of OJ from the fridge and proceeded to down it.
