Dear Diary,
It's been almost a year since Jeremy and I started our electronic correspondence. I can't quite put into words how cool it is getting to know someone on such a personal level in such a unique way as this!

The other day, I got another email from him, this time asking for my address so he could send me an early birthday present. I was a little sceptical at first, but gave it anyway and this morning a small package arrived addressed to me!
Inside was a box with a postcard attached. On the postcard was a picture of some wild horses running through a field and on the other side was this message:

Happy birthday Juls!
Though by the time this gets to you, your birthday might be long gone!
Anyways, hope you like the fudge, my Mom made it and sends her love,
Hopefully its not stale by the time it reaches you! Have also left my return address
So that we can start sending postcards and letters. Will take longer to arrive but is
way more convenient in the long run.
Hope to hear from you soon!
With love,
Jeremy x

Didn't take long for me to dig into the fudge, it was DEVINE! Underneath the fudge was another surprise though, a cassette tape and a notebook and pen. I wasted no time finding my old Walkman and playing the tape, which was yet another surprise...

It was Jeremy 's voice! His accent was heavenly, a quiet, soft spoken southern drawl that was just so sweet! On the tape, he explained how much the email correspondences meant to him. He also told me about how our shared love of music had inspired him to pick up the guitar again and that for my birthday that was coming up, he wanted to do something special. That he wrote a song inspired by our emails...it was called Postcards. His voice cut out then and the sound of a guitar started, then he began to sing...

As the song came to an end, he told me the notebook and pen were for me to write my own songs, as he knew I wrote poems and my family had a piano that no one played but our grandfather when he came to visit.

"Turn those poems into beautiful music," Jeremy's soft voice spoke from the tape. "Let the world hear your gift."

I've rewound the tape so many times since I got it, my heart swelling up like a balloon in my chest every time I did so. The notebook is almost half full with poems and scribbles and outlines of a song I've been writing for him, to say thank you, but noting solid has been formed just yet.

I've learnt so much about him and he's learnt so much about me...the lyrics of that song told me everything I needed to know about how he feels about me. And diary...

I think I feel the same way 🙂

With love,
Julia xx
