A week went by and Aunt Alice was non the wiser about mine and Susie's plans to go to New York.Every night after tea, Susie and I would go into my room and go over the plan; The plane tickets were for a week from the day Susie showed them to me which was, at this current time, right now, at 5 in the morning. The airport was an hour away from us, which meant we had to be up at around half 3 and get our stuff together to be able to call a taxi and get to the airport by half 4 where we would board the plane and be safe and sound up in the sky where Susie would message Aunt Alice and let her in on all the details...there's no way she can thrash us from the ground at 30 thousand feet..right??
It was around quarter past 3 now and Susie had made the executive decision to hide our bags under the hedge in the front garden s we weren't making a lot of noise as we made our way downstairs. I got up and out of bed, quickly getting changed and grabbing my phone before heading to the door.
Whimpering came from behind me and I turn to see Duchess staring up at me from the bed, her big round eyes so sad, knowing something was wrong and it broke my heart.
Bending down, I take her little face in both my hands. "You can't come with me Duchess," I tell her, burying my face deep into her fur. "I'm off on an adventure of sorts, and I hate that I can't take you along with me..." I sigh, rubbing her ears affectionately.
"But I promise," I say, giving her a big kiss on both her nose and her head. "I'll be back as soon as I can okay?"
A flicker of what I guess was understanding flickered in her eyes and after giving one last whimper she lacked my face and nuzzled into me, allowing me to automatically wrap my arms around her. We stay like that for a few minutes, until a soft knock comes from my door.
Reluctantly, I get up from my position on the floor and open the door to meet Susie, fully clad in black like she was in a Mission Impossible film."Ready?" She asked.
Sighing deeply and stroking Duchess's head one more time, I nod. "As I'll ever be..."

8 hours. That's how long the flight would be from here to New York.
In a few minutes we'd be pointing down the runway and going up in the sky, on our way to America and New York...and hopeful, my Dad.
I couldn't sit still. Nowhere in my seat was comfortable, I couldn't concentrate on my book, or my music, or try and occupy my mind with anything else other than the fact that in a matter of hours and days, I'd possibly be face to face with my biological father and I was freaking out.
Not only that, but I hadn't flown in a plane for years, me and Mum weren't that well traveled, but we planned to take trips after I graduated from University, see where the road would take us but until then, we were happy to live our nice, quiet life in Cornwall...I wish she could be here now, experiencing this journey with me.
At least Susie was sat beside me now, looking through a travel brochure provided by the airline.
She had messaged Aunt Alice just as we got the message to put on our seat belts, knowing that even she wasn't fast enough o t here before the plane took off and we wouldn't even see her response until we landed in America, so everything was going t plan...other than my fidgeting and wanting to dive out the window of the plane itself because of how scared I am!After a few more minutes of silently hyperventilating, the plan started making its way down the runway and lifted off the ground. I suddenly felt really light headed and as though I was about to throw up, but thankfully, tat feeling slowly slipped away and nice we were gliding safely through the air, I felt very muscle in my body relax and practically melted into my seat.
