We walked some more, trying hard to avoid nearby villages. Me and Quinn chatted some more while Aiden and Olivia would have short conversations about weird things they would notice. It seemed to be enough socialization for them, and it was fine by me. Valory would try to join in any of our conversations and failed. Me and Quinn would look at each other and laugh, I would put my head on his shoulders and walk. We would have contest like who could walk in the straightest line, spot the first animal and other cute things like that. Draken on the other hand, was sulking around in the far back. Valory was bouncing around, trying to stay active. It suddenly hit me that we had no real destination. I shared this with Quinn. His face darkened and he turned around to see what everyone else was doing. "In the next village, we stop." he said. "Not a chance." Draken said, finally speaking. "And just where do you suppose we go." Quinn replied. That shut Draken up. "We stop at the next village." Quinn repeated, and we went back into our usual stride. We got to the next village by sundown, and stayed there. We all shared a room, partly because it cost too much to get four other ones, and the other was for Aiden to watch me and Quinn. We were all asleep until we heard whispering outside the door. "Do you think that they're asleep?" one of the people whispered. We all sat up, careful not to make noise. we each got up and out of bed, ready to strike when the thugs came in. "Relax, it's the middle of the night. Of course they are asleep." another person said. "Not for long if you two keep yapping your mouths off. Now, get the door. Charles and Fredrick, go guard the hallway. Simian is watching the clerk. Now on my count, open the door slowly." he said. Aiden took a step up, stepping on a creaky board. "What the what was that?" one of the guys said. "I'm sure it's nothing. But we need to hurry." the guy who must be their their leader said. And then he opened the door. He probably regretted it instantly. That thought made me smile when I tackled him.
