Chapter 11 - Secrets and Lies

Everything else that happened was all mashed together in one huge blob of events. I didn't talk, eat, sleep or anything else, just sat there. The grief had overwhelmed me. Aiden had dangerous powers, but I had deadly ones. How long would it be before I melted another guard's face off. One that had a family. Friends. Children waiting for their father to come home. It was all too much for me to handle. I walked around in a haze, not really knowing what i'm doing. "Abby? Are you okay?" Quinn said. I remembered to respond to that, because that was the name they knew me by. "No." I said curtly. "No one really blames you for what happened." he said, trying to help. Bad idea. "YOU THINK THAT MATTERS! I JUST KILLED A HUMAN! I don't care if he was gonna kill me or make me a cup of tea, I still did it." I roared. " I-I was just trying-" "I know, and I'm sorry. I'm just shaken up by what happened." I explained. He nodded. He was sitting right next to me, and I put my head on his shoulders. He tensed up a little, but them put his arm around me. He smelled like freshly baked bread, fresh air and vanilla. I could have sat next to him all day, but I had a question that was bugging me. "Were are Aid- I mean Alec and Olivia?" I asked, hoping he wouldn't notice my slip up. "They are out getting firewood and berries. I placed my head where it was before. I fell asleep in the warmth of his arms.

"What are we going to do about them?" Olivia said. "I have no idea. We were supposed to report back to him as soon as we took care of them. We've done neither."Quinn stated. I was still half asleep, so I couldn't register what they were talking about. "We have to stand up against him. We cant do this." "No. You can't. We can. Have you forgotten what's at stake if we don't?" Olivia said. Her tone was as hard as stone. I had no idea why, she seemed like a kind person. "You know he'll just kill us after he has his way with them." Quinn said. "Maybe, but we have to." Olivia said, sounding hopeless. "Not necessarily. I have a plan. But you won't like it." Quinn said. "What-" OLIVIA! WHERE ARE YOU?" someone yelled. They stumbled into their little campsite. "And what are you doing with the royal children?" As soon as he said it, we knew our cover was blown.
