We make our way through the crowd of teenagers to the upstairs classroom where AP Gov is held. There are only a few people advanced enough to make it into AP as a freshman, so there are only like two classes. Will walks past me when we get to the classroom and goes to talk to the teacher. He seems like he already knows him. He knows his name anyway. Mr. D always has a coffee thermos with him. The rumor is that he's always got wine in his thermos, instead of coffee. I don't know if i believe it.
Mr. D points Will to a seat near me. There is only one desk between myself and Will, and that desk is empty, which is completely unhelpful. Oh well. As Mr. D drones on about the signing of the United States Constitution, I start to fall asleep. I put my head down on my desk and soon, sleep overcomes me.
I jump up from my sleep. Something startled me out of it with a very loud bang. Mr. D dropped a dictionary next to my head. Mr. D then speaks, "I suppose this should act as a lesson for all of us. If you fall asleep in class, you and this dictionary may become better friends. As will you and I, as I now need to see you after class, Mr. Johnson."
Finally, ten minutes later class is over, although it felt more like ten hours. Will walks over to me and again is about to open his mouth when Mr. D calls me over. I give a weak nod to Will and tell him I'll see him in a couple hours. Mr D. doesn't take his eyes off of me until I am standing front of him, his eyes scrunched into a glare. Then, he starts laughing.
"Nico Johnson?" He says through his laughs, "You're the famous Death Boy? But you're so small and adorable!"
I roll my eyes. "Can you just yell at me for falling asleep and then let me go? I really need to get to my next class."
"Right, well that's not why I asked you to stay. You were mumbling in your sleep, that's how I figured you'd fallen asleep. Saying something about a summer camp, and a boy."
"Oh... Kay?" I say. Making it clear I don't know what that has anything to do with anything.
"What do you know about this summer camp?" He asks, making me very confused.
"I just... I thought about how tan Will is and I thought maybe he spent his summers at a camp. I don't know, it was just a random thought I suppose. Must have slipped into my thoughts while I slept."
"Good... good." He says deep in thought. "Right well, don't want you to be late do we?"
I notice he's got his coffee mug and I ask him "That's not really coffee is it?"
"Of course it is. At least seems like it to the mortals." He says and his eyes widen like he just said something he didn't mean to.
"Mortals? What's really in there?" I ask, pushing on for an answer.
"As far you know, coffee. As far as I know, wine." Seeming like he knows he said something he really shouldn't have.
"How can there be two different things in there depending on who is looking?" I ask, only to be completely confused at the answer.
"Mist, Mortal."
