OKAY SO HELLO CHILDREN OF THE INTERNET. no this is not an update, I'm working on one now but something really important happened for Americans today.
THE SUPREME COURT LEGALIZED SAME SEX MARRIAGE IN THE USA. I suppose now it we can just call it marriage now can't we?
I want to talk to you guys about a little of what this means.
In late June, 1969 something called the Stonewall Riots happened. I, like many others, believe that this was the first time that LGBTQ people stood up for themselves for real.
Earlier this year I did a very large History Project specifically on the riots, so I do know a lot on the topic. However, the basis is this. Police were raiding a gay bar (called the stonewall) in a suburb of New York City called Greenwich Village. This bar was frequented by drag queens and gay people. That night was different however. When the police raided they arrested people for the most ridiculous things. Anybody not wear at least three items of "gender appropriate" clothing was arrested, meaning many queens got arrested.
By the end of the riots, police had barricaded themselves inside the bar and the rioters had set part of the bar on fire.
That being said, the rioters did a lot more damage than maybe they needed to, but it was the principle of the thing.
So, that night on June 28, nearly 47 years ago now, was the first time LGBT made the press, made equality an issue for everybody.
No matter how cool it would've been had the Supreme Court made everything legal on June 28, the choice the Court made today was amazing.
I myself am an ally. I, personally, am straight. But, I do have friends who are LGBTQA+. Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Pan, Ace and Trans (those are just my friends, I know that's not all that a person can be)
I feel as though today was a monumental day in history, and I hope that all the Americans out there feel as proud of your country today as I do.
I love you all so much, no matter sexuality, gender, age whatever. I love you. so, until the next chapter comes out *raises eyebrow mysteriously*
