Chapter 17

L's Pov

"Why are you suddenly asking me that all of a sudden...?"

"I'm thrown off by what Misa said about you. You never cared about either of them? What did she mean by that? Be honest with me."

I can tell (Y/N) was serious about this. I knew she had questions with no answers to them. I didn't want her to doubt me. I had to sound believable in order to gain her trust.

"The truth is, Misa and I grew more apart when she started dating Light" I mention.
"And Light started to avoid me. When I caught them together, I noticed Light was being awfully toxic with her and trying to force her to do things his way."

"If I dare make a statement..." (Y/N)'s sister brought over mugs of tea and placed them on the table in front of us.
"...I noticed Light was quite pushy when he went out with (Y/N), also."

Well, that's kind of true. Light doesn't really care for dating and likes to use people. I have witnessed that myself. But Light never avoided me. We still hung out. That of course, was a lie.

"Yeah, he was a little pushy...That's when I started having doubts about being with him" (Y/N) said.

"I never hated anybody. I just wanted to warn Misa to be careful around Light and perhaps reconsider their relationship, before she got badly hurt" I state.
"But she thought I wanted to interfere with them and got rowdy with me. We all really started to grow distant from one another. The relationship is really complicated."

"I'll bet" the sister spoke up.
"Light was a strange one. I could never really figure him out properly. I didn't say much as he was dating (Y/N) and I didn't want to seem like I was interfering."

"Well, now that he hadn't been dating (Y/N), what was your overall thoughts on him?" I asked.

"I think he was very selfish and only did things to help push himself further and leave others in the dirt. He seemed to only pay attention to his own goals and never really did anything to help others. He was a bit of a narcissist if you ask me."

"You observed all that when we were dating?" (Y/N) asked, surprised.

"I'm a detective, sis. I'm good at observing people."

"Yes, I noticed him being very narcissistic throughout my previous college years" I state. "When he scored top of the class in the entrance ceremony along side me, he was very much wanting to stand out. He had a big ego."

"It just makes me question more why he'd commit suicide..." (Y/N) sat there in deep thought.

"Yeah, it doesn't make much sense, if I'm honest..." her sister was also in deep thought.

"We don't have any evidence..." I mention.

"The police stated that there weren't any fingerprints or DNA evidence at the Yagami household. So they have nothing to prove that anyone else was in the house" (Y/N) stated.

"We shouldn't go too deeply into it..." I say, taking a sip of my tea.
"I don't think there is much we can do considering our positions in society. We should let the police take care of it."

"I agree" (Y/N)'s sister nodded.
"If the police have labelled it as a suicide, there's not much else we can do. We shouldn't second guess the situation."

I noticed (Y/N) looked so confused. Her brain must be fried with questions and theories. I didn't want her to feel overwhelmed.

"I don't want you to feel overwhelmed, (Y/N)" I mention.
"How about I head home and let you two calm down?"

"I'm sorry for making you come all this way, just to question you..." (Y/N) said.

"Not at all" I said, standing up.
"I know your situation is tough. Let me know if there is anything else I can do."

And with that, I left (Y/N)'s house.

The atmosphere was a little different. But she'll be okay soon.

(Y/N)'s Pov

"Ugh! Everything is so all over the place! How am I supposed to focus on my studies?!"

"I understand you're in a difficult position but try to calm down. Nothing will be solved just by panicking. Everything Ryuzaki said adds up in some way. As we mentioned, the police labelled Light's death as suicide. Let's try not to judge their investigating" My sister stated, sitting down next to me.

"But we still have no idea who killed Misa!" I stated.

"It's a bit early to consider that the driver intended to kill her, don't you think?"

"But the driver didn't even stop to check what happened! They just left! That's already suspicious enough!"

"Perhaps they were scared that others what others would think. You need to calm down (Y/N). Why don't you take a walk to go clear your head?"

"That might be a good idea..."

"I'll sort out what we can have for dinner, okay? You take a walk and get yourself together."

"Okay..."

I reach for my coat and head out the door.

Light's suicide, Misa's accident, my attack years ago...

All this was slowly piling up. It was as if bad things were just coming and going.

What was I to do? I was getting caught up in all of it.

Well, I guess I'm not the only one who's going through these difficulties. Light and Misa's families must be going through hell right now.

Plus, there is Ryuzaki who lost his dear friend.

However...I haven't seen Ryuzaki show any kind of emotion during any of this. Yes, he looks worried sometimes. But for the most part, he still remains calm.

He's so mysterious. How can he remain calm in these situations when I'm breaking down on the inside?

All these thoughts caused me to get a sore head. I stopped walking and put a hand to my head.

"I should stop by a vending machine and grab a drink" I say to myself.

I was about to continue my walk when I hear a voice call my name.

"(Y/N)? Is that really you?"

I turn around to see a face I thought I'd never see again, approach me. Someone I hadn't seen in years.

"(Friend's/Name)?"

"I haven't seen you since high school!How have you been?! It's been so long!"

(A/N): Now the reason this chapter took longer than I had hoped, was because I had many ideas for this chapter and wasn't quite sure which one to take forward. So I had to really think about it. And it's a little shorter too whoops.
I know, I'm terrible at planning stories lol.
Sorry I took such a long break as well. Head's all over the place and needed to collect myself a bit. I'll plan the next chapter ASAP! Thanks for waiting and tuning in!
