Chapter 15

(Y/N)'s Pov

"Wow! Those pancakes were amazing!" I said as the two of us left the pancake place.

"I'm surprised you haven't been there before. The place has very good reviews online" Ryuzaki said.

"I will definitely be going there again!"

"Well, I may see you there again sone time in the future" Ryuzaki laughed.

"Yeah, I'd like that!" I smile.

It was nice seeing how much Ryuzaki and I were hitting it off together with every conversation.
But there was a part of me that felt like he would slowly drift away, much like Light and Misa, whenever I'm close to them.
It caused my smile to fade.

"(Y/N)? What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Nothing's wrong!" I look up at him and smile.

He gave me a sympathetic look. One filled with grief, like he really felt awful.

"You shouldn't cover up your problems like that. You'll only get hurt..." he said.

"Huh? O-Oh..."

I look down at the ground.

"I know it's hard for you, (Y/N). But I'll help you in any way I can. That's a promise."

I smiled at him. He really was very kind.

"Hey Ryuzaki?"

"What is it?"

"If it's not too much to ask...can you walk me back home again?"

"Oh. Well, if you want me to. Sure."

"Thank you."

I told Ryuzaki the directions to my home and the two of us left for my house.

The mood felt a little different now. It was a quiet walk back home. Both of us afraid to break the silence that filled the air.

Eventually though, Ryuzaki spoke up:

"Are you sure you're gonna be okay, (Y/N)?"

"I...don't know..."

"Are you sure you don't want to talk about anything?"

My eyes started to sting as tears fell again.

"There's only a matter of time before you can't hold it in anymore. What's wrong (Y/N)?"

I look up at Ryuzaki with puffy, red eyes.

"Misa was involved in a hit and run."

"What...?" Ryuzaki's eyes widened.

"I don't know what happened. They're still investigating it. But it all happened too soon and I don't know how to process all of this!"

"...When did this happen?"

"Yesterday..."

"Why did you come to college today?! That's a lot on your plate!"

"I couldn't skip another class. I just want to forget everything. But I know I can't..."

"Is Misa okay?!"

"She's at the hospital right now. We're hoping to visit her tomorrow after we're allowed to. I don't know how she is. But I just hope and pray she makes a great recovery."

"Yes. My condolences to her family and the ones close to her. I feel awful."

"Join the club..." I sigh.

"Although..."

"Hmm?"

"It seems to me that this hit and run occurred pretty soon after Light's suicide..." Ryuzaki gave off a look of deep thought.
