Summer memoir (YiZhan FF)

One

It was summer, the company was bustling with costumers in this time of the year, making the employees busy throughout that period of time. A man can be seen sitting on his desk and massaging his temples while his phone was placed in his ear, he can hear his mother's voice.

'You have to be there ZhanZhan! This will be our first reunion with our relatives after a long time!'

Xiao Zhan groaned and closed his eyes shut before answering his mother.

"I'll be there mom, but i have to be back here soon, i still have work to do. " he replied.

He heard his mother 'tsk'

'son, it's summer and all your cousins will be there! They even took a whole month off of their jobs just to spend time with your grandpa. '

Zhan felt his headache grew stronger and unbearable so he just answered "fine, I'll hang up now. See you in 2 weeks mom. Bye. "

He tossed his phone on the sofa in his office and sat there and groaned again. He still have so much work left. He has many papers to approve and submit on time. His mom called him for how many times that day already pestering him to come home in his old hometown where his grandpa lives. He's growing tired of hearing the same antics over and over again so he finally gave up.

He still has 2 weeks left before his grandfather's 100th birthday celebration, but he can't leave all his paper works undone.

Xiao Zhan was contemplating whether he ask for a month leave just as his mother ask or come back to work immediately.

And he chose the former since he thinks that maybe it's time to take a good rest off from work. He shrugged and looked at his monitor.
It's just a month and he's sure that it won't affect his productivity.

He took time on deciding before he made a letter of approval and sent it to his boss, then continued to do his work, he has to finish all of these in two weeks so he could be there on time.

Xiao Zhan is workaholic and rarely has time for his loved ones but he is a loving son and grandson to his family, even if he has little time he'll make the most out of it with them.

He was just too eager with his work that sometimes he became neglectful of his responsibilities as family member.

After he was done with his work for the day, he opened his email to see if his letter was approved.

He was not surprised to see the answer quickly because most of his colleagues and his boss are convincing him to take a break from work since he started working at the company.

He's a good role model for the interns and even for his workmates.
He's been working there for over 4 years since he graduated from college when he was 22 years old, and you can count on your fingers how many times he took a day off or have a vacation, he can't sit still in his house and prefer to work.

After he read the approval sent to him, he turned off his computer and went out of his office.

He was greeted by some of his workmates that has to go overtime with work. He bid them goodbye and wish them a goodnight before he exited the building he was working at.

He went to his car in the parking lot and smiled when he saw his car sparkling under the moonlight. It's shiny black outerior is what caught his eyes, especially the red streaks it has that also shine when it was flashed with street lights.

He fell inlove with his car at first sight when he was buying his very first car with his own money.

He rode it immediately and excitedly went back home to rest. His damn headache is becoming unbearable and he forgot to bring his painkillers.

2 weeks later

'you better be on your way Zhan or else--- ' his mother threatens him.

Xiao Zhan laughed "yes mom i'm on my way, don't worry. Is there anything grandpa wants? I'll buy it on the way there. "

He heard his mother squealed and ask his grandfather if there was anything he would like Xiao Zhan to buy for him.

'Dad said it's fine, you don't need to bother yourself to buy anything, he just wants to see you. ' his mother explained to him after having a small conversation with his grandfather.

Zhan sighed

"Alright, see you soon mom. Tell grandpa i wish him happy birthday. " He replied.

'sure, but you also have to greet him personally when you arrive. Take care ZhanZhan! Mom love you so much! '

"I love you too mom, bye I'll hang up now. " He then took off his earpiece after hanging up the call.

On his way to their old hometown, Zhan bought a cake and basket of tangerines which his grandfather likes.

When he was young he was often at his grandpa's house to listen in his old stories about folklore surrounding their village together with his cousins, they always eat tangerines with their grandfather while they enjoy listening to him.

Coming back to his old hometown reminded him of his childhood. There was one particular story that his grandfather told them that marked in his mind.

A long time ago, there was a man before that lived a secluded life in the mountains not far from where their house was built, infact the history of their house was deeper than it looks, and it has a connection with the said man.

His grandfather said that the man was mourning and did all he can to find a way to manipulate time, saying that he has to bring someone back to life.

The man succeeded in making a tool that can grant his lifelong wish, but the tool he made was too strong and not only it can manipulate time, but it can also turn back time, unfortunately the man was too weak from using all his energy to make the tool that he can no longer use it for his own, so he had decided to seal it with his own life, not letting anyone come near it.

Since then, the man was never seen again and so is the tool he made. Everything vanished except the house that his grandfather lives in. His grandfather said that the house was passed down from generations to generations and taken care of until this day. His grandpa never told them how their house was related to the man in his story.

He just said that when the time comes, one of his grandsons will know the answer to that question.

Xiao Zhan was so engrossed at reminiscing the stories told by his grandpa that he didn't have time to step on the break on time and his car bumped with a motorbike that suddenly popped out of the intersection near the entrance of the village.
